Zambia, a landlocked country in southern Africa, has a long-established Indian community and a relationship with India that spans mining, trade, agriculture, healthcare and education. The corridor carries families joining relatives, professionals taking up postings in the copper and services sectors, and companies expanding into the southern African market. For each of them, the move from India is the practical step that turns a relocation plan into reality.
Seemleius handles the India–Zambia corridor as a single managed process. Zambia has no coastline, so every shipment combines a sea leg to a regional port with a long overland transit by road. We plan the route — and explain it — from the start, so the sea and land stages are understood and the timeline reflects how the corridor genuinely operates.
Freight routes and customs
The move begins in India. Export clearance is filed through ICEGATE, with the shipping bill prepared under the Customs Act and AD code registration completed at the originating port. Sea freight departs Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin to a southern African port — most commonly Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, the principal gateway for Zambia, or Durban in South Africa — with port-to-port transit typically around 18 to 28 days. From the port the shipment moves inland by road to Lusaka and the Copperbelt, adding several days. Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) routes into Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka for time-critical, lower-volume moves.
At the destination, customs is administered by the Zambia Revenue Authority. Zambia allows relief from import duty and taxes on used personal and household effects for people changing residence, where the goods are owned and used before the move and supported by a clear inventory, passport and proof of relocation. Because the goods transit a neighbouring country first, transit documentation must be accurate to keep the shipment moving along the corridor.

Who moves on this corridor
The India–Zambia corridor serves a broad spread of moves. Household relocations include families joining the established Indian community, professionals on mining, healthcare, education and engineering postings, and returning residents. Business and office moves cover companies setting up trading, manufacturing and service operations in Lusaka and the Copperbelt. Commercial freight spans mining and processing equipment, machinery and project materials. This single page covers the whole corridor.
Where we deliver in Zambia
We deliver across Zambia’s major cities and towns: the capital Lusaka; the Copperbelt cities of Kitwe, Ndola and Chingola; Livingstone near Victoria Falls; Kabwe in the centre; and Solwezi in the north-west. Onward delivery to smaller towns is arranged as a matter of course. If your destination is not listed, tell us — we cover the whole country.
How your move works
- India-side survey. We assess volume and contents at your home or office in India, in person or by video, and return a clear quote with realistic Lusaka arrival windows.
- Export documentation. Indian export paperwork is prepared in good time — shipping bill filed through ICEGATE, AD code confirmed, packing list and invoice ready for the corridor.
- Pack, dispatch and transit. Our crew packs to export standard, the shipment sails to a southern African port and moves inland by road to Zambia.
- Clear and deliver in Zambia. We manage clearance with the Zambia Revenue Authority, advise on used-goods relief and coordinate final delivery to your address.
