Rigging is the engineering discipline of lifting and moving loads that cannot be handled by conventional means — either because of their weight, their dimensions, their value, or the constraints of the space they occupy. In an Indian industrial context, that means press tools weighing 80 tonnes in a Chennai automotive plant, a transformer unit being installed at a Gujarat substation, a heat exchanger being threaded through a refinery structure in Jamnagar, or a CNC machining centre being repositioned within a Pune precision engineering facility. Why rigging requires engineering, not improvisation
The gap between a rigging job that runs safely and one that does not is almost always in the planning stage. Lifting points need to be rated for the load; rigging angles affect the force on each sling; ground bearing pressure matters when jacks or crane outriggers are involved; and the path the load travels through the building has to be cleared and checked before the lift begins. We do all of this before any equipment is moved into position.

How a heavy lift runs
- Load survey. We gather the load’s weight, dimensions and centre of gravity, inspect the lifting points, and assess the site — access, headroom, floor loading and crane setup area.
- Lift plan. A lift plan documents the method, equipment selection, sling configuration, rigging sequence and responsibilities. For complex lifts, a structural engineer reviews the ground-bearing and attachment calculations.
- Equipment mobilisation. Crane, gantry or skate equipment is mobilised to site. A pre-lift safety check is completed before the load is touched.
- Execute and position. The lift proceeds to the approved plan. The load is placed precisely at the destination, levelled where required, and handed over to your commissioning team.
