Customs Policy
How customs clearance works on a Seemleius move — and where responsibility sits.
Last updated: 14 May 2026
This Customs Policy explains how customs clearance is handled on an international Seemleius move, and where responsibility sits between us and you. It should be read alongside your Service Terms.
1. Our role in customs clearance
For international moves and freight, Seemleius prepares and submits the customs documentation for export and import, and coordinates clearance at both ends. We use our experience of each corridor to keep that process as smooth as possible.
2. Your responsibilities
Clean customs clearance depends on accurate information. You are responsible for:
- Providing a true and complete declaration of what is being shipped and its value;
- Confirming that you own, or are entitled to ship, the goods in the consignment;
- Providing the personal and supporting documents customs authorities require, in good time;
- Telling us about anything unusual, high-value or potentially restricted before the shipment is booked.
3. Prohibited and restricted items
Every country prohibits or restricts certain goods. It is your responsibility not to include prohibited items in your shipment, and to declare restricted items so they can be handled correctly. We will give guidance, but the final responsibility for what is presented for shipment rests with you. Goods found to be prohibited may be seized or returned at your cost.
4. Duties, taxes and charges
Customs duties, import taxes and similar government charges are set by the authorities of the destination country and are payable by you. We will help you understand what is likely to apply, but we do not control these charges and cannot waive them.
5. Inspections and delays
Customs authorities may inspect any shipment. Inspections, additional documentation requests and clearance queues can delay a shipment, and these delays are outside our control. We keep you informed and work to resolve queries quickly, but we cannot guarantee clearance timeframes.
6. Storage arising from clearance delays
If a shipment is held at a port, airport or border — for inspection, missing documentation or unpaid duties — storage, demurrage or holding charges may be applied by the handling authority. Where those charges arise from matters that are your responsibility, they are payable by you.
