The origin city shapes the logistics as much as the Kuwait destination. Mumbai, Thane and Pune shipments load naturally through Nhava Sheva (JNPT). Ahmedabad and Gujarat moves often use Mundra. Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have well-established access to Cochin or Chennai Port for sea freight, with strong air links from Kochi (COK), BLR and MAA. Delhi and NCR cities like Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad typically use air freight via DEL or are consolidated for a sea service from a western port. Hyderabad is well served by both HYD for air and road access to Chennai for sea. Duty, tariff and the cost picture

Kuwait applies the standard GCC import tariff of 5% on most categories of commercial goods. India is not party to the GCC preferential trade framework, so Indian-origin commercial shipments attract the full GCC rate rather than a reduced tariff — this is a planning point for any commercial exporter pricing into the Kuwait market. Bona fide household personal effects are treated separately under Kuwait’s customs framework and clear on different terms. For Indian exporters, FEMA reporting obligations, GST treatment under the LUT (Letter of Undertaking) and bond mechanism, and duty drawback or RoDTEP claims all run through the Shipping Bill filed on ICEGATE, which is why getting the Indian-side paperwork right is the first decision on the corridor.

The Civil ID timeline

Settling in Kuwait runs on the Civil ID. The work permit is processed through the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), the residency stamping follows, and the Civil ID then unlocks the tenancy contract, the bank account, the utilities, the school enrolment and the driving licence. The household shipment’s arrival window in Kuwait is best planned against the Civil ID timeline rather than the visa date alone — the family will need somewhere to receive the cargo, and that depends on a tenancy contract that depends on the Civil ID. We flag this realistically at the survey stage so the freight is not sitting in storage at Shuwaikh waiting for paperwork at the family end.
