Realistic port-to-port transit is typically 30 to 48 days depending on the connection. Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) routes via a North African or European hub into Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC).

At the Mauritanian end, clearance is handled by the Mauritanian Customs Directorate (Direction Générale des Douanes). Returning nationals and qualifying residents may claim relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to ownership and documentation conditions; commercial cargo attracts standard import duty and VAT.
