The India–Hungary corridor

Because Hungary is landlocked, sea freight from India runs to one of two European gateways. The first is the northern route: container vessels from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra or Chennai Port call at Hamburg or Bremerhaven in Germany, after which the shipment moves south by rail or road across roughly 900 to 1,000 kilometres to Hungary. The second is the Adriatic route: vessels call at Koper in Slovenia or Rijeka in Croatia, which are considerably closer to Hungary — only 400 to 500 kilometres from Budapest — and connected to it by established rail corridors. Port-to-port sea transit from Indian ports typically falls in the 22 to 35 day range depending on gateway and routing, and the onward overland leg adds several more days. We weigh the northern and Adriatic options against each other for every shipment, because the right gateway depends on origin city, volume and timing.

Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) into Budapest (BUD) serves moves where the timeline cannot absorb a sea transit and an overland leg. There is no direct India–Budapest passenger-belly service for most origins, so air cargo usually routes via a European or Gulf hub; even so, a shipment can be on the ground in Hungary within a few days rather than several weeks. Air freight costs several times the per-kilogram rate of sea, and we are straightforward about that trade-off — the right mode depends on whether a residence permit appointment, a school term or an office opening leaves room for the slower option.
