Sea freight departs from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and is routed to Cartagena or Barranquilla on the Caribbean coast — the principal gateways for cargo bound for Bogotá and central Colombia — or to Buenaventura on the Pacific, usually via transhipment in Europe, Panama or at a Caribbean hub, with start-to-finish transit typically in the range of 30 to 45 days. Customs clearance is handled by the Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales (DIAN), which administers import duty, IVA value-added tax and the conditions under which used household goods may qualify for relief on a transfer of residence (menáje doméstico).
Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) reaches Colombia through El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, routed via a European, Gulf or North American hub. Air suits urgent or compact consignments; given the distance the cost premium over sea is significant and we explain it honestly.
