Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and one of India’s most important regional partners. The two countries share a long maritime history and a major trade relationship in coal, palm oil, vehicles and machinery. Indian engineers, energy and mining specialists, IT staff and corporate teams relocate to Jakarta, the industrial corridors of Java and the resource regions beyond, while Indian firms expand into one of the world’s largest consumer markets. Seemleius manages the India–Indonesia relocation as one coordinated job.

The move begins in India. Export clearance is filed through ICEGATE with the shipping bill prepared under the Customs Act, AD code registration completed at the loading port, and packing built for a tropical-climate destination. In Indonesia, imports are cleared by the Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai (Customs and Excise) through the relevant seaport. Returning Indonesian nationals and qualifying foreign residents holding the appropriate stay permit (KITAS or KITAP) may import used household effects with relief, and we confirm the documentary position — permit status, ownership evidence — before a shipment sails.

Freight routes and customs

Sea freight is the backbone of this corridor for household and commercial volumes. Containers depart Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and sail to Tanjung Priok, the Port of Jakarta and Indonesia’s busiest gateway, or to Tanjung Perak at Surabaya for East Java and the east of the country. The route is well served, with frequent direct and single-transhipment sailings often connecting through Singapore or Port Klang; realistic port-to-port transit runs about 12 to 22 days.

Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) reaches Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) at Jakarta on direct and one-stop services, with onward connection to Bali’s Ngurah Rai (DPS) or Surabaya (SUB) where needed. Direct flying time to Jakarta is roughly 6 to 8 hours. Air suits tight timelines or urgent consignments ahead of a sea shipment. We are candid about the cost difference.

Indian export clearance

Shipping bill on ICEGATE, AD code registration and Indian customs clearance managed at Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Cochin for a correctly documented departure.

Indonesia customs

Clearance through the Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai at Tanjung Priok or Tanjung Perak, with used-effects relief for KITAS or KITAP holders confirmed in advance.

Sea and air options

Frequent sea sailings to Jakarta and Surabaya (about 12 to 22 days); direct and one-stop air via CGK in roughly 6 to 8 flying hours.

One coordinator, both ends

One coordinator manages the India survey, export paperwork, dispatch and Indonesian delivery — no handover gap between origin and destination.

Who moves on this corridor

The India–Indonesia route serves a broad mix. Household moves are engineers, energy, mining and IT professionals and corporate staff and their families on multi-year postings. Business and office relocations cover Indian firms entering Indonesia’s manufacturing, technology, FMCG and resource sectors. Commercial freight runs alongside — plant, equipment, project cargo and office fit-out. We scope routing and documentation to each profile.

Where we deliver in Indonesia

We deliver to Jakarta and the surrounding Jabodetabek metropolitan area, and across Java to Surabaya, Bandung and Semarang. We also handle moves to Bali — Denpasar and the lifestyle areas — to Medan in North Sumatra, Makassar in Sulawesi, and to Balikpapan in Kalimantan and the IKN Nusantara development zone serving the resource sectors. Inland and inter-island delivery is planned around shipping schedules and road conditions. If your destination is not listed, ask us and we will price the final leg.

How your move works

  1. India-side survey. We assess volume at your home or office in India, in person or by video, and return a clear quote with sea and air options and a realistic Indonesian arrival window.
  2. Export documentation. Indian paperwork is prepared early — shipping bill on ICEGATE, AD code, packing list and invoice — so dispatch is not delayed.
  3. Pack and dispatch. Our crew packs to export standard and the shipment is booked on the confirmed sea or air route to Indonesia.
  4. Clear and deliver in Indonesia. We manage customs clearance with Bea dan Cukai, advise on used-effects relief, and coordinate onward delivery to your address.
