From India, the move begins with export clearance: the shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration with the originating port, and a packing list and invoice prepared carefully. Household sea freight typically loads at Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mundra, with Chennai and Cochin serving South Indian origins. Containers for the eastern Caribbean route via a major transhipment hub — commonly in the Caribbean or on the US Gulf coast — with smaller feeder vessels carrying the final leg to Dominica, so a realistic door-to-port transit runs in the region of 45 to 60 days.
Dominica’s principal seaports are at Roseau and the cargo port at Woodbridge Bay near the capital, with Portsmouth in the north. Air freight departs Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) and connects through Europe or North America, then via a regional Caribbean gateway into Douglas–Charles Airport (DOM); larger consignments are routed by sea. Import clearance is handled by the Customs and Excise Division.
