Freight routes and customs

The India end begins with export clearance: a shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration and an export-standard packing list and invoice. Sea freight departs from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin. With no direct service between India and Peru, containers route via a transhipment hub — typically in the Far East or Panama — before reaching the Pacific coast, with overall transit commonly in the range of 40 to 55 days depending on connections.

Peru’s principal gateway is the Port of Callao, adjacent to Lima, which handles most of the country’s containerised imports; Paita in the north serves as a secondary port. Air freight moves from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) into Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima via a connecting hub in Europe or North America. Customs clearance is handled by SUNAT, Peru’s national customs authority. Returning residents and immigrants may import used household goods under transfer-of-residence provisions, and we confirm eligibility before the shipment departs India.
