Freight routes and customs

The India end begins with the shipping bill filed on ICEGATE under the Customs Act, AD code registration at the originating port, and export-standard packing. Sea freight departs Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and routes via a transhipment hub to a West African gateway port — commonly Dakar in Senegal, Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire or Tema in Ghana — from where the container travels overland to Mali. Realistic transit is typically 35 to 50 days to the port plus several days inland, depending on routing and the corridor used. Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) routes via a European or North African hub into Bamako-Sénou International Airport (BKO).

At the Malian end, clearance is handled by the Malian Customs Directorate (Direction Générale des Douanes). Returning nationals and qualifying residents may claim relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to ownership and documentation conditions; commercial cargo attracts standard import duty and VAT. Because goods transit a third country, we manage the in-transit bond and the Dakar–Bamako or Abidjan–Bamako corridor paperwork.
