Slovenia is a small Central European country that punches well above its size as a destination for Indian professionals, students and families. An EU and Schengen member with the euro as its currency, Slovenia combines a high quality of life, a strong manufacturing and pharmaceutical base, and a position at the crossroads of Central Europe — bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Ljubljana, the capital, has become a quietly significant base for technology, engineering and research roles, while Slovenian universities and the country’s growing pharmaceutical sector draw a steady stream of Indian talent. For the families and individuals making that journey, the physical move is the logistical counterpart to a decision that has usually been carefully weighed. Seemleius exists to make the logistics match that decision.

The India–Slovenia move starts at the India end: export customs clearance through ICEGATE at Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai Port or Cochin, preparation of the shipping bill under the Customs Act, AD code registration with the originating port, and the careful packing of a household or office that will travel several thousand nautical miles before it reaches the Adriatic. That preparation is as important as anything that happens at the Slovenian end — and it is where coordination gaps appear when the India side is handled carelessly. Once the container reaches the Port of Koper, the Slovenian side begins: import clearance with Finančna uprava (FURS, the Slovenian customs and tax authority), the EU transfer-of-residence relief that removes import duty and VAT on used personal effects, and the residence registration sequence that opens the door to an EMŠO personal identification number.

The India–Slovenia corridor

Sea freight is the backbone of this corridor for household and commercial volumes. Container vessels from Nhava Sheva and Mundra reach the Port of Koper — Slovenia’s own deep-sea port on the Adriatic and one of the most important cargo gateways for Central Europe. Koper is a genuine advantage on this route: rather than landing in a port in a neighbouring country and trucking goods across a border, an India–Slovenia shipment arrives directly on Slovenian soil and clears Slovenian customs at the point of entry. Transit times from Indian ports to Koper are typically in the region of 22 to 30 days port to port, depending on routing and intermediate calls. From Koper, onward road delivery reaches Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kranj and every address in the country within a short drive — Slovenia is compact, and no destination is far from the coast.

Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) serves moves where the timeline cannot accommodate sea transit. Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is the country’s main air gateway; there is no direct passenger or freighter service from India, so air shipments route through a European hub — commonly Frankfurt, Vienna or Munich — before the final leg into Ljubljana. We are candid about the cost differential and help you weigh speed against budget: air freight is several times the per-kilogram cost of sea, and the right answer depends on whether your visa date, university term or job start allows the slower mode.

Why the India end matters so much

Indian export clearance

Shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration, FEMA-aware documentation and Indian customs clearance managed at Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Cochin — so the shipment leaves India correctly and any GST refund or LUT position is preserved.

Slovenia’s customs regime

Import declarations to FURS, EORI registration where required, EU import VAT treatment confirmed in advance, and EU transfer-of-residence relief claimed accurately for used personal effects brought in as part of a genuine change of residence.

Sea and air options

Sea directly into the Port of Koper for household and commercial volumes (around 22 to 30 days); air via a European hub into Ljubljana (LJU) when the schedule demands it, with the routing explained honestly.

One coordinator, both ends

The same person manages your India packing survey, ICEGATE shipping bill and export documentation, sea or air dispatch, and Slovenian delivery — no handover gaps between origin and destination.

Who moves on this corridor

  • Skilled professionals — engineers, IT specialists, healthcare and pharmaceutical staff and researchers from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi NCR heading to Ljubljana and the wider Slovenian economy on EU Blue Card or single-permit work routes
  • Students and academics — admissions to the University of Ljubljana, the University of Maribor and research institutes such as the Jožef Stefan Institute bring a regular flow of moves from India
  • PR emigrants and families — families joining a partner already settled in Slovenia, often after several years of planning around residence-permit timing
  • Indian corporates — businesses establishing a Central European foothold, drawn by Slovenia’s position, its logistics infrastructure and the Port of Koper as a distribution gateway

Where we deliver in Slovenia

We move regularly to all of Slovenia’s main cities and their surrounding areas: Ljubljana and the central region; Maribor and the north-east; Celje in the Savinja valley; Kranj and the Gorenjska region near the Alps; and Koper and the Adriatic coast. The country is small enough that onward delivery from the Port of Koper to any of these is straightforward, and we are familiar with the residence-registration sequence at the local administrative unit (upravna enota) that each new arrival must complete. If your destination is a smaller town, ask us — we deliver across the whole country.

Starting the move

  1. India-side survey. We assess volume and contents at your home or office in India — in person in major cities, or by video — and return a clear quote with sea and air options explained, including realistic Koper arrival windows.
  2. Export documentation. Indian export paperwork is prepared: shipping bill filed through ICEGATE, AD code confirmed, packing list, invoice and any FEMA-related declarations relevant to your move. We do not leave this to the last week.
  3. Pack and dispatch. Our crew packs to export standard from your India origin, and the shipment is booked and dispatched on the confirmed route to the Port of Koper or, by air, into Ljubljana.
  4. Clear and deliver in Slovenia. We manage FURS import clearance, advise on EU transfer-of-residence relief, and coordinate onward road delivery to your address in Slovenia.
