Both require planning that begins at the India end, and both become considerably more complicated when left until the final weeks before the move. Relocating your pet from India to Slovakia

Slovakia applies the EU’s pet entry rules, set out in Regulation (EU) 576/2013. For animals travelling from India — a non-EU country that is not on the EU’s listed-country roster for rabies purposes — the requirements are detailed and the sequence is fixed. The animal must first be implanted with an ISO 11784/11785-compliant microchip; the rabies vaccination must follow the microchip, because any vaccination given earlier is invalid for EU entry; a rabies antibody titration test must be carried out at an EU-approved laboratory at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and must show an antibody level of at least 0.5 IU/ml; and a three-month waiting period must elapse, counted from the date the blood sample for the test was drawn, before the animal can enter the EU.

Once those steps are complete, an EU animal health certificate must be issued by an official Indian veterinary authority within the validity window required for travel. The certificate is pre-notified to the authorities through the EU’s TRACES electronic system, and the animal must enter the EU through a designated traveller’s point of entry. Because Slovakia’s own airport handles limited intercontinental traffic, many India-origin pets enter the EU through Vienna and are then carried the short distance across the border into Slovakia, or arrive via another major EU airport with onward travel arranged. None of these steps can be reordered or compressed.

India adds its own export requirements. The Animal Quarantine and Certification Service (AQCS) issues the Indian export health certificate; a No Objection Certificate from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau is required for certain species and for any CITES-listed animal. The pet must be examined by an authorised veterinary officer and the microchip details verified before the certificate is issued. Shipping a vehicle from India to Slovakia

Moving a car or motorcycle from India to Slovakia involves Indian export documentation — the registration certificate, a No Objection Certificate from the RTO, the AD code and an ICEGATE shipping bill for the vehicle — followed by sea freight to a European port and a Slovak registration process that, for a non-EU vehicle, centres on the technical inspection. Because Slovakia is landlocked, the vehicle is shipped to Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Koper or Rijeka and then moved inland by road or rail. On arrival in Slovakia, a non-EU vehicle must pass a technical and emissions inspection at an authorised station and, where the model was not previously type-approved for the Slovak or EU market, an individual vehicle approval that assesses whether it meets EU and Slovak roadworthiness standards — covering lighting, emissions, brakes, glazing and structural items. Modifications are sometimes required before approval is granted, and the inspection outcome determines whether the vehicle can be registered at all.

On the customs side, EU transfer-of-residence relief is the principal route to avoid the import duty and import VAT that otherwise apply to a non-EU vehicle — available where the vehicle has been owned and used at the India address for the qualifying period before the move and is kept for the required period after import. Once the technical inspection and any individual approval are complete, the vehicle is registered with the district transport authority (the okresný úrad, odbor cestnej dopravy), Slovak number plates are issued, the compulsory third-party motor insurance is arranged, and motor-vehicle tax is set up where it applies.
