Freight routes and customs

The India end begins with export clearance: a shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration and an export-standard packing list and invoice. Sea freight departs from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin. With no direct service to the islands, containers route via a major transhipment hub — commonly Kingston in Jamaica or Caucedo in the Dominican Republic — before a feeder service completes the journey, with overall transit commonly in the range of 35 to 50 days depending on connections.

Saint Kitts is served by Port Zante and the deep-water cargo facility at Bird Rock in Basseterre, while Nevis is served by the port at Charlestown. Air freight moves from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) into Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Saint Kitts via connecting hubs in Europe, North America or the Caribbean. Customs clearance is handled by the St Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department. Returning nationals and qualifying residents may import used household effects under concession provisions, and we confirm eligibility before the shipment leaves India.
