Czechia has become one of central Europe’s most attractive destinations for Indian professionals, students and businesses, and the number of Indians making the move grows steadily each year. The Czech Republic’s strong manufacturing base, its automotive and engineering sectors, a competitive cost of living relative to western Europe, and a deliberate push to attract skilled foreign workers through schemes such as the Highly Qualified Employee Card have all drawn Indian talent towards Prague, Brno and the wider country. The India–Czech relationship has industrial roots that long predate this corridor — Czech engineering names have been present in India for the better part of a century — and today that connection runs in both directions. For the families and individuals making the journey now, the physical move is the logistical counterpart to a decision often years in the planning. Seemleius exists to make the logistics match the ambition.
The India–Czechia move starts with the India end: export customs clearance through ICEGATE at Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai Port or Cochin, preparation of the shipping bill under the Customs Act, AD code registration with the originating port, and the careful packing of a household or office that will travel several thousand nautical miles by sea before it even reaches central Europe. Because Czechia is landlocked, there is no “arrival port” in the country itself — the sea leg ends at a northern European port such as Hamburg or Bremerhaven, or at Koper on the Adriatic in Slovenia, and an onward rail or road leg completes the journey inland to Prague, Brno or Ostrava. That two-stage structure is the defining feature of this corridor, and getting the India end right is what keeps the inland leg on schedule.
The India–Czechia corridor
Sea freight is the backbone of this corridor for household and commercial volumes. Container vessels from Nhava Sheva and Mundra call at Hamburg and Bremerhaven on well-established and frequently scheduled routes, with port-to-port transit times typically in the range of 26 to 34 days depending on routing and intermediate calls. From the northern port, the container moves inland to Czechia by rail or road — Hamburg has long functioned as a gateway port for Czech trade, and regular container rail services link it to terminals at Prague, Mělník and Brno. An alternative routing uses Koper in Slovenia, the closest seaport to Czechia, with onward rail across Austria; this can shorten the inland leg for some shipments. Chennai Port provides a strong sea gateway for origin cities in South India.
Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) serves moves where the timeline cannot accommodate sea transit. Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) is the country’s principal air gateway; shipments also route via a major western European hub such as Frankfurt or Vienna with a short onward road leg into Czechia. Flying hours from India are in the region of eight to ten, and a shipment can be on the ground within days rather than weeks. We are candid about the cost differential — air freight typically runs several times the per-kilogram cost of sea — and we help you find the balance between speed and budget that suits your residence-permit date, school term or office opening.
Why the India end matters so much
Indian export clearance
Shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration, FEMA-aware documentation and Indian customs clearance managed at Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Cochin — so the shipment leaves India correctly and any GST refund or LUT position is preserved.
Czech and EU customs
As an EU member, Czechia applies the Union Customs Code; import declarations are processed by Celní správa (the Czech customs administration). Transfer-of-residence relief removes duty and VAT on used personal effects where eligibility conditions are met — prepared and claimed correctly for your move.
Sea and air options
Sea via Hamburg, Bremerhaven or Koper with an onward rail or road leg into Czechia (26 to 34 days on the sea leg, plus inland transit); air via Prague or a western European hub when the schedule demands it.
One coordinator, both ends
The same person manages your India packing survey, ICEGATE shipping bill and export documentation, sea or air dispatch, the inland leg and the Czech delivery — no handover gaps between origin and destination.
Who moves on this corridor
- Highly Qualified Employee Card holders — IT engineers, software developers, technology specialists and researchers from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi NCR heading to Prague and Brno, where the technology and shared-services sectors have grown rapidly
- Employee Card workers — skilled staff in engineering, manufacturing and the automotive supply chain, drawn by Czechia’s position as one of central Europe’s industrial centres
- Students — admissions to Charles University, Czech Technical University in Prague, Masaryk University and Brno University of Technology, several of which offer English-medium programmes that attract Indian applicants
- Families joining relatives — spouses and children reuniting with a partner or parent already settled in Czechia, often timed around long-term residence permit milestones
- Indian businesses — companies establishing a central European base in Prague, Brno or Ostrava, frequently to serve the regional manufacturing and shared-services market
Where we deliver in Czechia
We move regularly to all of the Czech Republic’s major cities and their surrounding regions: Prague (Praha) and the central Bohemian region; Brno and South Moravia, the country’s second city and a growing technology hub; Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian industrial region in the north-east; Plzeň (Pilsen) in the west, with its long engineering heritage. We are familiar with the residence-registration steps each new arrival faces and the rhythm of dealing with the Czech foreign police and the Ministry of the Interior’s offices. If your destination is a smaller town or a region not listed here, ask us — we deliver across the whole country.
Starting the move
- India-side survey. We assess volume and contents at your home or office in India — in person in major cities, or by video — and return a clear quote with sea and air options explained, including realistic Czechia arrival windows that account for both the sea leg and the inland leg.
- Export documentation. Indian export paperwork is prepared: shipping bill filed through ICEGATE, AD code confirmed, packing list, invoice and any FEMA-related declarations relevant to your move. We do not leave this to the last week.
- Pack and dispatch. Our crew packs to export standard from your India origin, and the shipment is booked and dispatched on the confirmed route via a northern European or Adriatic port, or by air via Prague.
- Clear and deliver in Czechia. We manage the inland leg, the EU import clearance with Celní správa, advise on transfer-of-residence relief, and coordinate final delivery to your address in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň or wherever in the country you are settling.
