Commercial goods and the Skatturinn chain

If the move includes commercial stock, samples or operational equipment, the import side requires an Icelandic consignee registered with the tax authority, accurate commodity classification for each line item, and an import declaration to Skatturinn ahead of the cargo arriving at Sundahöfn or Keflavík. Because Iceland is in the EEA but outside the EU customs union, this is a standalone Icelandic import — not an extension of any EU clearance — and Icelandic VAT applies on import at the standard 24% rate, recoverable for the registered business. We prepare the import file in parallel with the move itself so customs treatment is not the bottleneck when the team is ready to start.
