Freight routes and customs

Every Turkey move starts at the India end: an export shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration with the dispatching port, and a detailed packing list and valued inventory. Sea freight handles household and commercial volumes — containers leave Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and sail, often via a Mediterranean transhipment hub, to the major Turkish ports: Mersin and the Marmara terminals of Ambarlı and Gemlik that serve Istanbul and the industrial northwest. Transit times realistically run three to six weeks port to port depending on routing. Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) into Istanbul Airport (IST) suits time-critical moves, with direct services keeping flying time around six to seven hours.

At the Turkish end, clearance is handled by the Ministry of Trade through its customs administration. Returning Turkish nationals and approved long-stay arrivals can claim relief on used household and personal effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to residence-permit, ownership and use conditions and a complete inventory. Because Turkish customs treatment is closely tied to residence-permit status, we confirm the documentary position before the container is booked.
