Freight routes and customs

The India end begins with the shipping bill filed on ICEGATE under the Customs Act, AD code registration at the originating port, and export-standard packing. Sea freight departs Cochin, Chennai, Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mundra — Cochin and Tuticorin are the natural gateways for the short hop south — with realistic port-to-port transit of around 7 to 16 days depending on routing and any transhipment. Containers arrive at the Malé Commercial Harbour, the country’s principal port. Air freight from Cochin (COK), Chennai (MAA), Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL) or Bengaluru (BLR) reaches Velana International Airport (MLE) on direct or one-stop services, an efficient option given the short distance.

At the Maldivian end, clearance is handled by Maldives Customs Service. Returning nationals and qualifying residents may claim relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to ownership and documentation conditions; commercial cargo attracts standard import duty. Goods bound for an outer atoll clear at Malé and then travel on by domestic supply vessel, which we factor into the delivery schedule.
