Jamaica and India share a connection that runs deeper than most realise. People of Indian origin have lived in Jamaica since the mid-19th century, descendants of indentured workers who arrived from 1845 onward, and that diaspora link gives the India–Jamaica corridor a long-standing character. Today the route also serves professionals in tourism, hospitality, mining and engineering, and Indian firms exploring one of the Caribbean’s most prominent economies. The corridor is long and indirect, and a successful relocation depends on getting the India end exactly right. Seemleius runs the India–Jamaica move as one coordinated job.

The move begins in India. Export clearance is filed through ICEGATE with the shipping bill prepared under the Customs Act, AD code registration completed at the loading port, and packing built for a long voyage through Caribbean transhipment. In Jamaica, imports are cleared by the Jamaica Customs Agency through the Port of Kingston. Returning Jamaican nationals may claim relief on used household and personal effects under the country’s well-known returning-residents programme, and other long-term residents may have concessions too — we confirm eligibility, passport history and ownership evidence before a shipment sails.

Freight routes and customs

Sea freight is the backbone of this corridor. Containers depart Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and route to the Port of Kingston, one of the largest transhipment hubs in the Caribbean. Despite Kingston’s prominence, there are no direct sailings from India, so cargo itself routes via a transhipment point — commonly a Mediterranean port or a US east-coast gateway — before the final leg; realistic port-to-port transit runs about 30 to 45 days. Origin documentation accuracy is essential to keep a multi-leg routing on schedule.

Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) reaches Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) at Kingston or Sangster International Airport (MBJ) at Montego Bay on multi-stop routings, typically via a Gulf hub and a North American connection. Air suits urgent, compact consignments while the main shipment travels by sea. We explain the cost gap plainly and help you split the load where it earns its place.

Indian export clearance

Shipping bill on ICEGATE, AD code registration and Indian customs clearance managed at Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Cochin for a correctly documented departure.

Jamaica customs

Clearance through the Jamaica Customs Agency at the Port of Kingston, with returning-residents relief on used effects confirmed before dispatch.

Sea and air options

Sea via Kingston on transhipment routings (about 30 to 45 days); multi-stop air via KIN or MBJ for urgent consignments.

One coordinator, both ends

One coordinator manages the India survey, export paperwork, dispatch and Jamaican clearance — continuity across a long, multi-leg corridor.

Who moves on this corridor

The India–Jamaica route serves a clear mix. Household moves include diaspora families with ancestral ties as well as tourism, hospitality, mining and engineering professionals on contract. Business and office relocations cover Indian firms in hospitality, trading, services and equipment supply. Commercial freight runs alongside — equipment, project cargo and fit-out materials. We scope routing and documentation to each profile.

Where we deliver in Jamaica

We deliver to Kingston, the capital and commercial centre, and to Montego Bay, the tourism capital on the north coast. We also handle onward delivery to Spanish Town, Portmore in the Kingston metropolitan area, Ocho Rios and the resort corridor, Mandeville in the cooler interior, and Negril in the west. Inland delivery from Kingston is by road and planned around route conditions and the hurricane season. If your destination is not listed, ask us and we will price the final leg.

How your move works

  1. India-side survey. We assess volume at your home or office in India, in person or by video, and return a clear quote with a realistic Kingston arrival window.
  2. Export documentation. Indian paperwork is prepared early — shipping bill on ICEGATE, AD code, packing list and invoice — so nothing is rushed.
  3. Pack and dispatch. Our crew packs to export standard and the shipment is booked on the confirmed transhipment routing to Kingston.
  4. Clear and deliver in Jamaica. We manage customs clearance with the Jamaica Customs Agency, advise on returning-residents relief, and coordinate onward road delivery to your address.
