• ISO-compliant microchip (11784/11785 standard), implanted before all other steps
• Rabies vaccination (or booster if previously vaccinated), with a waiting period of 21 days after the primary course before travel is permitted
• For dogs: a Rabies Virus Neutralising Antibody (RVNA) titre blood test with a result at or above 0.5 IU/ml, followed by a mandatory waiting period of three months before entry into the EU/Ireland is permitted — this waiting period begins from the date the titre test is taken, not from the date of the qualifying result
• A health certificate issued on the official form required for non-listed third-country entry to the EU, completed by an official veterinarian in India and endorsed by the relevant Indian authority (the DAHD or state animal husbandry department) within the pre-travel window specified by Irish regulations
• Entry through an approved Irish Border Inspection Post (BIP) — Dublin Port or Dublin Airport handle most India-origin pet arrivals

The Ireland-specific tapeworm requirement for dogs

Dogs entering Ireland from outside the EU — regardless of route — must receive a veterinary tapeworm treatment (praziquantel or an equivalent approved compound) administered by a licensed veterinarian between 24 and 120 hours before the scheduled arrival time at the Irish Border Inspection Post. This is an Ireland-specific requirement that sits on top of the EU pet travel rules. It applies to every dog entering Ireland from India, without exception, and must be recorded in the animal health certificate with the date, time, product name and veterinarian details. Missing this step prevents the dog from clearing at Dublin; no retrospective treatment at the point of entry is permitted.
