Moving to Ghana

Moving from India to Ghana follows one of West Africa’s most established corridors. Ghana’s stable political climate, English-speaking environment and growing economy have long attracted Indian professionals and entrepreneurs, and there is a substantial, long-settled Indian community in Accra and Kumasi. The India–Ghana route today carries household relocations, business moves and a steady stream of commercial freight.

Ghana has good Atlantic port infrastructure, but the route from India is long and usually involves a transhipment leg; we plan that openly and build the schedule on real connections. The work begins with proper export handling in India and ends with customs clearance and delivery to your address in Ghana.

Freight routes and customs

The India end follows a clear discipline — a shipping bill filed through ICEGATE, AD code registration at the loading port, and a packing list and invoice matched to the shipment. Sea freight departs Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mundra from western India and Chennai or Cochin from the south. Ghana’s principal seaport is Tema, near Accra, with Takoradi serving the west; because direct sailings from India are limited, containers commonly route via a transhipment hub such as Tangier, Algeciras or a West African port. Port-to-port transit typically runs five to eight weeks depending on connections.

Air freight moves from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, normally via a Gulf or European hub. Customs is administered by the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division); Ghana applies the ECOWAS common external tariff, and used personal and household effects accompanying a genuine relocation may receive concessional treatment where residence and ownership conditions are met. We confirm the duty position and assemble the supporting documents before dispatch.
