The India–Bahamas corridor is a long-haul Caribbean route with a distinct profile. This archipelago of hundreds of islands draws Indian families through residency and investment routes, professionals joining its tourism, financial-services and hospitality economy, and entrepreneurs setting up offshore businesses. For those relocating — whether to a home in Nassau or an office on Grand Bahama — the move from India to the Bahamas is an ocean-spanning relocation that ends with island delivery logistics.

The journey begins on the India side: export customs clearance through ICEGATE, preparation of the shipping bill under the Customs Act, AD code registration with the originating port, and export-grade packing for a voyage of around 9,500 nautical miles. The Bahamas is well connected to North American shipping, so India–Bahamas cargo typically tranships through a US East Coast or Caribbean hub — making precise India-end documentation, prepared for that routing, important to a clean clearance.

Freight routes & customs

Sea freight carries household and commercial volumes. Containers leave Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra, Chennai or Cochin and route via a transhipment hub — commonly a US East Coast port such as Miami, or a Caribbean gateway — before a feeder vessel completes delivery to Nassau on New Providence, or to Freeport’s container port on Grand Bahama. Realistic port-to-port transit, including transhipment, runs roughly 35 to 50 days depending on routing and feeder schedules.

Air freight from Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR) or Chennai (MAA) routes via a North American or European hub into Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, with Grand Bahama International (FPO) as a secondary gateway; expect a multi-stop itinerary. Import formalities are handled by the Bahamas Customs & Excise Department. Returning residents and new residents can claim relief on used household goods under the country’s transfer-of-residence and returning-resident provisions; we confirm the current evidence requirements — residence or homeowner documentation, prior-ownership terms and a valued inventory — before the shipment sails.

Indian export clearance

Shipping bill filed on ICEGATE, AD code registration and Indian customs clearance managed at Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Cochin — documentation prepared for a transhipment route to the Bahamas.

Transhipment routing

India–Bahamas cargo feeders via a US East Coast or Caribbean hub into Nassau or Freeport. We plan the connection so the shipment is not stranded between vessels.

Bahamian customs

Import declarations to the Customs & Excise Department, with returning-resident and transfer-of-residence relief on used effects prepared and evidenced.

One coordinator, both ends

The same person manages your India survey, ICEGATE documentation, dispatch and island delivery — no handover gaps across the long ocean route.

Who moves on this corridor

This single corridor serves the full range of moves. Households and families relocate under residency and investment routes or to join family already in the islands. Businesses and offices ship equipment and records as entrepreneurs set up financial-services and offshore operations. Commercial freight moves too — hospitality fit-out goods, retail stock and trade consignments for the resort economy. We scale the same disciplined process from a few cartons to a full container.

Where we deliver in the Bahamas

We deliver across the major islands: Nassau and the wider New Providence island, the population and commercial centre; Freeport and Lucaya on Grand Bahama; Marsh Harbour in the Abacos; Governor’s Harbour on Eleuthera; George Town on Great Exuma; and the family islands beyond. If your destination is an out island or a smaller cay, ask us — we coordinate the inter-island leg.

How your move works

  1. India-side survey. We assess volume and contents at your home or office in India, in person or by video, and return a clear quote with sea and air options and a realistic Nassau or Freeport arrival window.
  2. Export documentation. Indian export paperwork is prepared — shipping bill filed through ICEGATE, AD code confirmed, packing list and invoice — alongside the Bahamian customs file.
  3. Pack and dispatch. Our crew packs to export standard from your India origin, and the shipment is booked on the confirmed transhipment routing or air-freighted via an international hub.
  4. Clear and deliver in the Bahamas. We manage clearance with the Customs & Excise Department, apply returning-resident or transfer-of-residence relief where eligible, and coordinate onward delivery to your address.

Tell us where you are moving from in India and which island you are heading to in the Bahamas, and request a quote — your coordinator will walk you through the right starting point.
