Freight routes and customs

Sea freight departs Jebel Ali and is transhipped, commonly through a European port such as Rotterdam or a Caribbean hub, before reaching the Port of Paramaribo on the Suriname River, the country’s main commercial harbour. Transit typically runs seven to ten weeks depending on the connecting service. Air freight from DXB routes via a connecting hub into Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport near Paramaribo and clears faster — generally two to four weeks — suiting time-sensitive cargo.

Customs is administered by the Surinamese customs authority (Douane). Returning residents and incoming households can generally seek relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, supported by a detailed inventory, passport and proof of the move. New goods, vehicles and commercial cargo are assessed separately. We prepare and verify the declaration before the shipment departs.
