The family pet and the car are the two items that cause the most uncertainty — because both are subject to EU entry requirements that are specific, time-bound and not always obvious from the outside. Pet relocation to Poland

Poland applies the EU’s rules for pets entering from third countries, and the UAE is a third country in EU terms. The requirements are not unreasonable, but they are sequential and time-sensitive: each step has to be completed in the correct order, and some steps carry fixed waiting periods that cannot be shortened. Get the sequence wrong or miss a step, and the animal cannot enter at the Polish border.

The core sequence for a dog or cat travelling from the UAE to Poland is: an ISO-compliant microchip first, a primary rabies vaccination after the chip has been implanted (never before), a rabies antibody titration blood test at an EU-approved laboratory taken at least thirty days after the vaccination, and then a mandatory three-month wait from the date of that qualifying blood sample before the animal may enter the EU. An EU animal health certificate is issued by an authorised veterinarian in the UAE close to the travel date, and the animal must enter Poland through a designated travellers’ point of entry where the documentation is checked.

Poland also operates its own local rules once the animal is in the country — some municipalities apply a dog tax and registration requirement, and individual local authorities can set their own rules on leashing and identification. We brief you on what applies in your destination city.

Vehicle shipping to Poland

Shipping a car from the UAE to Poland involves considerably more than the freight leg. There is UAE export documentation, EU import treatment at the Polish border, a technical inspection, and the registration process itself. We handle the logistics chain and make sure the documentation is in order — and we are straightforward from the start about the duty, inspection and registration costs so there are no surprises on arrival.

How Polish customs treats the vehicle depends on whether it qualifies under the transfer-of-residence relief. A car that you have owned and used for at least six months before the move, and that you will continue to use in Poland, can usually be imported under that relief and exempted from the 10% EU import duty and the 23% Polish VAT. The same transfer-of-residence application that covers the household can cover the vehicle. Without the relief, duty and VAT are payable on the assessed customs value.

Once the car has cleared customs, it must pass a Polish technical inspection at an authorised station — the badanie techniczne — which confirms the vehicle meets Polish roadworthiness, emissions and safety standards. Vehicles built to UAE specification sometimes need headlight, marker or emissions adjustments to comply. The car is then registered at the local registration office, the wydział komunikacji: the registration fee is paid, the vehicle is entered in the national records, third-party insurance is arranged, and Polish licence plates are issued.
