   Export-standard packing from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, ISPM-15 timber where the route needs it, then a booked Caspian rotation via Aktau, a Trans-Caspian rail slot, or air from DXB to Almaty or Astana for urgent and smaller loads.

Multimodal routing: Caspian, rail and air

Because Kazakhstan has no coastline on open water, no single mode does the whole journey. The shortest sea-led path takes a container from Jebel Ali down the Gulf, around to the Caspian feeder service and into the Port of Aktau, from where road or rail carries it inland to Atyrau, Almaty or Astana. The alternative runs sea to a Black Sea or Baltic hub and then the Trans-Caspian, or Middle Corridor, rail line east across the steppe — useful when Caspian sailings are thin. For smaller consignments and anyone working to a fixed start date, air from DXB to Almaty (ALA) or Astana (NQZ) covers the distance in hours rather than weeks. We are candid about the trade-off: surface routing is the economical choice for a full household, air is the fast one, and the right answer depends on what you are shipping and when you need it.

Realistic timeline

Plan on roughly 25 to 40 days door to door for surface freight, and treat that as a band rather than a promise. The Caspian crossing and the inland leg both carry weather and scheduling variables, and customs sits on top. Air freight clears the ground in two to four days with a working clearance at the Kazakh end. EAEU customs clearance and transfer-of-residence relief

Kazakhstan belongs to the Eurasian Economic Union customs union alongside Russia, Belarus and others, so household imports clear under common EAEU rules administered by the State Revenue Committee. Used personal effects and household goods can enter free of import duty as a transfer of residence, provided they were owned and used before the move — the working test is ownership of six months or more — and the paperwork holds together. The file needs a detailed inventory with honest values, passport, the visa or residence permit that establishes you are settling in Kazakhstan, and evidence the goods predate departure. Mismatches between the declared inventory and what is in the box are what stall a clearance, so we reconcile the two before the shipment leaves the UAE.

Vehicles, pets and what stays behind

Used-car import into the EAEU is tightly regulated, with emissions standards, a customs clearance certificate and registration formalities that often make shipping an older UAE vehicle uneconomic — we give you a straight read on whether your car is worth bringing before you commit. Pets travel on an export health certificate from an official UAE vet, microchip and a current rabies vaccination, with the entry requirements confirmed against Kazakh veterinary rules ahead of travel; we hand off to an established pet-relocation agent for the flight. Firearms, ammunition and weapons are off the table without specific licensing, and the usual restrictions apply — large quantities of alcohol, certain medicines, drone and radio equipment, and anything of cultural or controlled value needs checking before it goes near a manifest.
