A production line is the one move where the lift is the easy part. A bottling and capping line, a filling hall feeding a labeller and shrink-wrapper, a food and beverage process train, an assembly conveyor with indexed stations, a packaging and palletising cell — these arrive at destination as a sequence, and they only run again if every segment goes back in the order it came out, levelled and aligned to the station beside it. Across 22 years and 1,213 recorded moves, Seemleius has handled production line relocation and factory line shifting between units in Dubai, across the wider UAE and into the Free Zones — from a single conveyor system to a complete bottling and packaging hall. Most run against a shutdown window: the line is making product on Friday, the floor is bare by Saturday night, and the operator needs it producing again by the Monday shift. That pressure is what a production line move is really about, and it is planned for at the survey, not improvised on the day.

Why a production line is different
Move a single machining centre and the job is finished when it is levelled and the operator powers it up. A production line has no single finish line. Reassembly is sequence-critical: a filler that goes back 30 mm out of line with the capper monobloc will not run, and a conveyor rebuilt out of order leaves a gap at one transfer and an overlap at another. Every segment is labelled and indexed before it leaves, because the route drawing is the only thing that puts a long conveyor run back to its exact length, with transfers and divert gates landing where the controls expect them.
Conveyor segmentation is its own discipline. A line is broken at the joints the manufacturer designed it to break at, and the re-integration at destination is where the hours go — squaring each section, re-setting belt tension, aligning transfers so product passes machine to machine without a jam. Where the line touches a process, validation returns. A food and beverage train cannot simply be switched on; CIP circuits need re-verification and a line feeding a regulated product may require process validation testing before it makes saleable stock. For pharmaceutical or cleanroom-adjacent lines, FDA and cleanroom revalidation — particle counts, environmental qualification, sometimes a fresh IQ/OQ on relocated equipment — sits in the programme from the start. And almost all of it happens against the clock, which is why the weekend turnaround is planned at survey rather than hoped for on the day.
Methodology and equipment
The work follows the same backbone as every industrial move we run, set out in full on our machinery moving methodology page, shaped here by the need to rebuild a sequence rather than re-site a single asset.
Decommission. Controlled power-down station by station, services disconnected, pneumatics bled, hydraulic and coolant systems drained, process pipework flushed and capped. Where the line is under OEM warranty, the manufacturer's engineer is on the plan so decommissioning and recommissioning are both signed off. CIP circuits are left in a known clean state.
Label and index every segment. Before anything is unbolted, each machine, conveyor section, guard panel and cable loom is tagged to a route and layout drawing. Interfaces are photographed, drive couplings and registration marks logged, change-parts boxed against their parent machine. This is the step that makes a clean reverse-build possible.
Skate, jack and crane. Toe-jacks and machine skates move the heavy monoblocs and palletisers along the surveyed route; Hilman roller skate-sets carry the weight where overhead lift is not available; mobile cranes handle yard lifts and roof openings. Air casters protect hygienic and epoxy floors. Lift plans are signed by the appointed person before the day.
Re-integrate. At destination the line rebuilds to the marked footprint in sequence: tanks and process skids first, machines positioned and levelled, conveyor sections squared and re-tensioned, transfers aligned so product runs station to station. Fencing, light curtains and safety circuits go back to the recorded layout.
Commission. The line is brought up in stages — dry-cycle, then product — with the OEM engineer where the contract requires it. CIP is re-verified, sensors and coders re-timed against their datum, and the line handed over running at the agreed rate.
The site survey, in detail
Nothing is quoted firm until an engineer has walked both origin and destination. For a production line the survey is longer than for a single asset, because the route matters as much as the machines. We record floor loading at each rest point along the path a heavy filler or palletiser will travel, doorway and corridor clearances for the skating gear, overhead obstructions, and whether a roof opening or crane lift is needed to get a large monobloc out. At destination we confirm the new footprint, the services that must be live before the line lands, and the run length the conveyors must rebuild to. The output is a written method statement with the disassembly and reverse-build sequence set out, the weekend crewing costed in, and any Free Zone approvals flagged. The free survey is the foundation of every quote, and for a UAE site we can usually arrange it within a working day or two of your enquiry.
Two plants into one over a weekend shutdown
A manufacturer consolidating two units into one larger facility, with a packaging and palletising line that had to be out by Friday evening and producing again on the Monday shift. The coordinator held a live programme against the deadline: the survey caught two floor-loading points on the destination slab that needed spreading plates, the line was indexed segment by segment before breakdown, and three crews worked disassembly, transport and reverse-build in parallel. The palletiser's robot home positions were recorded before the cell came apart, and the line was running again by Monday lunchtime.
Beverage filling line moved within the UAE
A drinks producer relocating a rinser-filler-capper monobloc, its CIP set and the downstream labeller and shrink-wrapper to a larger hall across the Emirate. The coordinator brought the OEM engineer into the plan for the monobloc power-down and re-timing, had the process pipework flushed and capped before breakdown, and sequenced the rebuild so the CIP circuits could be re-verified before the line saw product. Hygienic clamps were bagged with their gaskets and the fill heads crated for the road leg.
Packaging line into a Dubai Free Zone unit
A contract packer moving a case-packing and cartoning line into a JAFZA unit, where the zone gate-pass documentation had to be filed before the line could enter. The coordinator handled the Free Zone paperwork alongside the move plan, surveyed the goods access and new footprint, and indexed the conveyor run to a route drawing so it rebuilt to its exact length. The light curtains and fencing went back to the recorded layout, and the line was re-timed against its registration datum before handover.
We moved a full packaging and palletising line into a consolidated plant over one weekend shutdown, and it had to be making product on the Monday. The indexing before breakdown made it work — every conveyor section and every guard was tagged to a drawing, so the reverse-build had no guesswork in it. The coordinator ran a live programme against the clock and the line was back at rate by Monday lunchtime.
Relocating a beverage filling line is not a forklift job — the CIP circuits and the hygienic joints have to come back validated, or you cannot make saleable product. The coordinator had the OEM engineer in the plan from the survey, kept the pipework capped and clean through the move, and sequenced the rebuild so we could re-verify CIP before anything ran. The monobloc re-timed first attempt.
The Free Zone gate pass for one conveyor section came through later than I would have liked and held the last truck at the gate for a few hours. To be fair, the coordinator had flagged the risk in advance and re-sequenced the build so the crew kept working on the machines already inside, so we lost no time on the line itself. The segmentation and re-integration were spot on and it re-timed cleanly. I would use them again.

Do you handle decommissioning of the line?
Yes. We build those steps into the programme and co-ordinate them with your quality team and the OEM.
Can a line really be moved over a single weekend?
Often, yes, and it is the usual shape for these jobs because production is paused. Whether a Monday restart is realistic depends on the number of stations, how much can move whole rather than in pieces, and the validation the product demands. The survey gives an honest answer before you commit a date: it sets the disassembly and reverse-build sequence, crews each phase in parallel, and flags anything — a permit, a long-lead part, an OEM engineer's availability — that could threaten the restart.
Do you handle cleanroom or FDA revalidation?
Where the line sits in or adjacent to a cleanroom, the revalidation — particle counts, environmental qualification and any required re-qualification of relocated equipment — is planned in from the survey and run with your quality team and the OEM. We co-ordinate the sequence so the controlled environment is re-established and signed off before the line returns to making product.
What about the CIP system and process pipework?
The CIP set is left in a known clean state before breakdown, pipework is drained, flushed and capped, and hygienic clamps are bagged with their gaskets so the joints re-certify cleanly. At destination the CIP circuits are re-verified as part of commissioning, before the process line is brought up on product.
Can you move a line into or out of a Free Zone?
Yes. Free Zone exits and entries — JAFZA, DAFZA, Dubai Industrial City and others — need zone gate-pass documentation alongside any customs declaration, and we file it before the work date is locked. Where the line is being imported, we confirm the Dubai Customs HS classification first; machinery sits under HS Chapter 84 and electrical equipment under Chapter 85, and misclassification is the commonest cause of a clearance hold.
How quickly can you survey a production line?
For a UAE site, usually within a working day or two of your enquiry, and often the same week for an urgent move. A line survey takes longer than a single-asset one — commonly half a day to a day — because we walk the full route at both sites and record the run lengths the conveyors must rebuild to.
