Freight routes & customs

Sea freight from Jebel Ali routes to Mombasa in Kenya, the principal gateway port for Uganda, with onward road or rail transport along the Northern Corridor to Kampala. Door-to-door transit typically runs around five to eight weeks, depending on port handling and the inland leg. The alternative port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania serves the Central Corridor. Air freight from DXB flies into Entebbe International Airport, roughly five hours direct, and suits urgent or higher-value consignments.

Customs is administered by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Returning residents and citizens may import used personal and household effects with relief from import duty, provided the goods have been owned and used abroad and are supported by a detailed packing inventory and passport evidence. Goods are processed under the East African Community customs framework. We prepare the declaration in advance and confirm the treatment before shipping.

The corridor serves a broad mix. Household relocations are the largest share — families and individuals settling in Kampala and Entebbe for work, study or a return home.
