Freight routes and customs

Sea freight departs Jebel Ali and routes via a transhipment hub — commonly a European port such as Algeciras or a regional hub — before arriving at the Port of Dakar, one of West Africa’s principal deep-water ports. Full-container household volumes typically run 28 to 45 days door to door. Air freight leaves DXB and connects through a European or regional hub into Blaise Diagne International Airport, which serves Dakar, suitable for tighter timelines and smaller consignments.

Customs is administered by the Senegalese customs authority, the Direction Générale des Douanes. Returning residents and qualifying new arrivals may claim relief on used personal and household effects, subject to proof that goods were owned and used before the move. A detailed valued inventory, passport and visa or residence documentation are required, with paperwork prepared in French. We assemble the customs file in advance so clearance at the Port of Dakar proceeds cleanly.
