Sea freight from Jebel Ali to the Port of Mersin or the container terminals serving Istanbul, such as Ambarlı, typically runs around three to four weeks and is the cost-effective choice for full household volumes. Air freight from DXB into Istanbul Airport is the faster option, often clearing within one to two weeks, and suits urgent or higher-value consignments. Customs is administered by the Turkish Ministry of Trade through its customs directorates. Arriving residents and returning nationals may import used household goods and personal effects with relief from duty under the transfer-of-residence provisions, where the goods are demonstrably owned and used, the move coincides with establishing residence, and a residence permit supports the claim.
