Freight routes and customs

Sea freight is the standard mode. Containers leave Jebel Ali for a West African gateway port — commonly Dakar in Senegal, Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, or Tema in Ghana — and are then trucked inland to Mali. Door-to-door transit generally runs in the region of seven to ten weeks depending on the corridor used. Air freight from DXB into Bamako-Sénou International Airport is the faster option for smaller or urgent consignments, typically within one to two weeks including handling.

Customs clearance is administered by the Malian Customs (Douanes du Mali). Returning residents may qualify for relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to a detailed inventory and proof that goods were owned and used before the move. Goods crossing a neighbouring country require transit bond and corridor documentation, and French is the language of the paperwork — we prepare and verify the full set in advance so both the transit leg and the Bamako clearance run cleanly.
