Sri Lanka sits at the centre of the Indian Ocean shipping lanes, and the corridor from the UAE is one of the busiest we handle. Moves run from Dubai and Abu Dhabi for returning Sri Lankans, members of a large community reuniting with family, professionals joining the island’s growing services sector, and businesses with cross-border interests. The route is well connected and efficient, and Seemleius plans the Gulf–Sri Lanka corridor to make the most of that.
Sri Lanka is reached easily by sea and air. The Port of Colombo is one of the major transhipment hubs of South Asia, and direct flights from Dubai keep urgent shipments fast. The customs process is well established, and a move that lands smoothly is one where the inventory, valuation and supporting documents all line up before the shipment leaves the UAE.
Freight routes and customs
Sea freight departs Jebel Ali for the Port of Colombo, often a direct service given the route’s strong connectivity, with transit typically running two to four weeks. From the port, onward road delivery reaches Colombo, Kandy and destinations across the island. Air freight from DXB into Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo is roughly a four to five hour direct flight and clears door to door within one to two weeks, ideal for smaller or urgent consignments.
Customs is administered by Sri Lanka Customs. Returning residents and incoming households can generally claim relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence and returning-resident provisions, supported by a detailed inventory, passport and evidence of the move and time spent abroad. New goods, vehicles and commercial cargo are assessed separately. We prepare and verify the declaration in advance.
Sea & air freight
Sea via Jebel Ali to the Port of Colombo for full-household volumes — air DXB to Colombo when the timeline is short.
Customs handled
Sri Lanka Customs clearance and returning-resident relief on used effects prepared and verified before departure.
Island-wide delivery
Onward road delivery from Colombo covers Kandy, Galle, Jaffna and the wider island.
One coordinator
A single point of contact owns the move from the UAE survey to your Sri Lankan address — no handover gaps.
Who moves this route
The UAE–Sri Lanka corridor serves household relocations of apartments and family homes, professionals and their families returning or relocating, and businesses shipping office equipment or commercial freight. A single move often combines a family’s belongings with light commercial cargo, and we plan the freight mode and customs treatment around the mix.
Where we deliver
We move regularly to Sri Lanka’s major cities and their surrounding regions:
- Colombo — the commercial capital, the main port and the landing point for most arrivals
- Kandy — the cultural capital in the central highlands
- Galle — a historic port city on the southern coast
- Jaffna — the principal city of the northern peninsula
- Negombo — a coastal city near the international airport
How your move works
- Survey and quote. We assess volume and contents in the UAE, in person or by video, and return an itemised quote with sea and air options explained.
- Document in advance. Dates and freight space are booked, and Sri Lankan customs paperwork — inventory, returning-resident evidence — is prepared before departure.
- Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard, builds a full inventory and dispatches from Jebel Ali or DXB.
- Clear and deliver. We manage customs clearance at Colombo and coordinate onward delivery, unpacking and reassembly at your address.
Every UAE–Sri Lanka move has its own shape, from a single household to a full office transfer. Tell us what you are planning — request a quote and your coordinator will build the route around it.
