Slovenia is a small country that does things carefully, and its customs service is no exception. A relocation shipment is not waved across the border on trust — the inventory is read, the declared values are weighed against it, and anything inconsistent is held until it is resolved. For a UAE family or business moving to Slovenia, that is reassuring: when the file is complete and accurate, the shipment clears without drama and arrives when promised. Assembling that file is exactly what Seemleius does on the Dubai–Slovenia corridor.
The route carries a varied mix of moves: professionals joining companies in Ljubljana, families drawn to the quality of life around Kranj and the Alpine lakes, and businesses establishing a Central European base with easy reach into Austria, Italy and Croatia. It is a corridor with one significant advantage built into its geography — Slovenia has its own deep-sea port, and that changes the shape of the whole move.
What makes the Slovenia corridor distinct
Slovenia is an EU member state, so clearing customs on arrival clears your goods into the entire European Union. The country’s short Adriatic coastline gives it the Port of Koper — a deep-sea container port that is not just Slovenia’s gateway but one of the principal entry points for cargo bound for Central Europe. Sea freight from Jebel Ali sails directly to Koper, which means your household shipment lands on Slovenian soil and clears Slovenian customs without an intermediate transhipment through a northern European port and a long inland leg. Sea transit on this route typically runs around three to four weeks, and it is the cost-effective choice for full household volumes. When the timeline is tight, air freight from DXB routes via Ljubljana Airport (LJU); from either point of entry, onward road delivery reaches Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje and Kranj comfortably within Slovenia’s compact footprint.
Slovenian customs — administered by the Financial Administration, FURS — is methodical rather than obstructive. Classification, valuation and supporting documentation need to be accurate the first time. A mismatch between the inventory, the declared value and the evidence behind it will be noticed, and a held shipment costs time and storage. We prepare everything in advance so what the authorities see corresponds exactly to what is in the container.
Transfer of residence relief on personal effects
Most arriving residents qualify for EU transfer-of-residence relief, which exempts used personal household goods from import duty and from Slovenian import VAT. The goods must have been owned and used by you for a qualifying period before the move — generally at least six months — and you must be genuinely transferring your normal residence to Slovenia. A customs declaration is filed with FURS alongside evidence of your change of residence: a residence permit, proof of address and a detailed inventory. The relief is worthwhile, but it depends on the paperwork being precise, and we prepare it with you so the shipment is treated correctly.

Sea & air freight
Sea direct from Jebel Ali to the Port of Koper for full-household volumes — air from DXB via Ljubljana (LJU) when the schedule cannot wait.
Slovenian customs handled
EU import documentation, FURS clearance and the transfer-of-residence relief declaration prepared accurately and well ahead of arrival.
Slovenia’s own port
Koper is a deep-sea port and a Central European gateway. Your goods clear in Slovenia, not at a distant northern port, and travel a short inland leg.
One coordinator
A single point of contact owns the move from the UAE survey to the Slovenian delivery — no handover gaps.
Where in Slovenia we deliver
Slovenia is geographically small, and we move regularly to every part of it:
- Ljubljana — the capital and centre of business, government and international arrivals, with the deepest housing and schooling options
- Maribor — the second city, an industrial and university centre in the north-east near the Austrian border
- Celje — a historic regional hub in the centre of the country, well placed for the surrounding Savinja valley
- Kranj — the gateway to the Gorenjska region and the Julian Alps, popular with families and close to Ljubljana airport
- Koper — the coastal city around the port itself, the natural landing point for sea freight
What you arrive into
Slovenia is a country of registered residents. New arrivals from outside the EU generally need a residence permit, and on settling in you register your residence with the local administrative unit, the upravna enota. A central piece of Slovenian administrative life is the EMŠO — the unique personal identification number that, with a tax number from FURS, unlocks a bank account, health insurance, school registration and most other formalities. We flag the sequence in planning so the shipment and the housing arrangements line up sensibly with these steps.
How the move works
- Survey and quote. We assess volume and contents — in person in the UAE or by video — and return a clear, itemised quote with the freight mode options explained.
- Document in advance. Dates are confirmed, vessel or aircraft space is booked, and the Slovenian customs paperwork — import declaration, transfer-of-residence relief application and supporting evidence — is prepared and verified before the shipment leaves the UAE.
- Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard, builds a complete inventory, and dispatches on the booked route from Jebel Ali or DXB.
- Clear and deliver. We manage EU import clearance at the Slovenian point of entry and coordinate onward delivery, unpacking and reassembly at your address.
