Moving to Cyprus

Commercial Cargo & Freight to Cyprus

Cyprus is a small market with an outsized logistics role — an EU member state positioned at the meeting point of three continents, with Limassol functioning as a regional shipping and services hub. For UAE businesses, that makes it an efficient European entry point, but it also means commercial cargo has to be handled with the discipline an island gives no room to skip: there is no road alternative if a shipment is delayed, and a customs hold at the port is a hold on the whole consignment. Seemleius commercial cargo and freight on the UAE–Cyprus corridor is built around getting the documentation right before the cargo moves and monitoring it through every handover.

The UAE–Cyprus freight corridor

We arrange and coordinate sea and air freight from the UAE into Cyprus for commercial stock, equipment, industrial goods, consolidated consignments and full containers. Sea freight from Jebel Ali into Limassol — the island’s principal commercial port — or into Larnaca typically runs in the region of 10 to 18 days depending on the service and any transhipment. Air freight from DXB into Larnaca (LCA) or Paphos (PFO) is the route for time-sensitive cargo, usually via a one-stop connection. Because Cyprus is an EU point of entry, clearing customs at Limassol places the goods in free circulation across the entire European Union, which simplifies onward distribution if the cargo is destined for Greece, the wider EU or beyond.

Sea freight

Cost-effective for larger volumes and bulk commercial consignments — full container or consolidated loads via Jebel Ali into Limassol or Larnaca, with bonded warehousing available at the port where onward clearance is staged.

Air freight

For time-sensitive commercial cargo — high-value goods, urgent equipment or consignments that cannot wait on sea transit — from DXB into Larnaca or Paphos on a one-stop connection.

Cypriot customs & EORI

EU import documentation prepared for Cypriot customs — HS classification, EORI registration, valuation and supporting records done properly the first time.

Onward delivery

From the port or airport to the final commercial address anywhere on the island, or onward into the wider EU under transit procedures where required.

Cypriot customs, EORI and import VAT

Every commercial importer needs an EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number registered with Cypriot customs before cargo can clear in its name. Cyprus applies a standard VAT rate on imports, charged on top of any duty, and that import VAT is recoverable for VAT-registered businesses through the regular VAT return — so for a registered importer it is a cashflow item rather than a final cost. Goods of preferential UAE origin can clear at a reduced or nil duty rate under the applicable trade arrangement, provided valid origin documentation accompanies the shipment; we arrange this with the UAE exporter where it applies.

For cargo destined onward into other EU member states, or for goods that need to move under suspension to a bonded warehouse, EU transit procedures — T1 for external transit, T2 for internal transit — settle the import VAT and duty at the right point in the chain. For temporary movements such as exhibition stock, demonstration equipment or professional tools, an ATA carnet is often the cleanest mechanism, and we prepare and present it for clearance.

Why classification accuracy matters on this corridor

The HS code assigned to your cargo determines the duty rate, the VAT base and any licensing or restrictions that apply. An incorrect classification can result in delays, back-duties, penalty interest and compliance questions that cost considerably more than getting it right at the outset — and on an island, a held consignment cannot simply be re-routed by road. We do not guess at classification; we confirm it before the shipment moves and document the reasoning so any subsequent customs query is answered straight from the file.

Bonded warehousing and staged clearance

For larger UAE shippers, bonded warehouse storage at Limassol or Larnaca keeps cargo in customs suspension until the goods are actually needed — useful when the inland customer is not ready, when import VAT cashflow needs managing, or when a consignment will be released in stages. We coordinate the warehouse, the staged clearance and the onward delivery across the island to Nicosia, Paphos and the surrounding districts.

How a commercial shipment runs

  1. Brief us. What is shipping, its HS classification if known, value, weight and dimensions, the Cypriot consignee’s EORI, and when it needs to arrive.
  2. Quote and route. You receive a clear quote with the freight mode, the realistic transit time, the customs treatment, the origin position if applicable, and any transit or bonded options explained.
  3. Document and book. Cypriot customs documentation is prepared, origin and any licensing evidence is collected, vessel or aircraft space is booked and the cargo collected.
  4. Track to delivery. Your coordinator monitors the shipment through each handover, manages customs clearance, and confirms delivery at the final Cyprus destination — or onward into the EU under transit.

A Cyprus freight programme works best alongside the wider picture of a relocation — if office or staff moves are part of the plan, our UAE to Cyprus relocation overview sets out how the corridor fits together. Whether it is a single consignment or regular freight into Cyprus, we route and document it properly. Request a freight quote and we will confirm the right approach for your cargo, the EORI and customs treatment, and any duty or VAT planning that applies.

Contact us
How long does a move to Cyprus take?

Transit time depends on the freight mode and the volume. Your coordinator gives you a realistic window when quoting — sea freight is slower and more economical, air freight is faster for time-sensitive moves.

Do you handle customs at both ends?

Yes. Export and import documentation is prepared and submitted on your behalf, and clearance is coordinated at both origin and destination.

Is my shipment insured in transit?

Transit insurance is available on every corridor. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting so you can choose what suits the shipment.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.

Will I have one point of contact?

Always — a dedicated coordinator owns your move from first quote to final delivery, including the customs and freight handovers in between.
