Belgium is one of Europe’s busiest logistics hubs, and it earns that position through volume and discipline rather than leniency. Commercial cargo arriving with an incorrect classification or a thin documentation file does not move quickly through the Port of Antwerp-Bruges — it waits. For UAE businesses shipping into Belgium, the lesson is the same one the corridor teaches everywhere: the customs work is done before the cargo sails, not improvised when it arrives. Seemleius commercial cargo and freight on the UAE–Belgium corridor is built around that order of operations — thorough preparation, accurate classification, and a coordinator tracking each consignment through every handover.
The UAE–Belgium freight corridor
We arrange and coordinate sea and air freight from the UAE into Belgium for commercial stock, machinery and equipment, industrial goods, consolidated consignments and full container loads. Sea freight from Jebel Ali into Antwerp-Bruges or Zeebrugge typically runs in the region of 20 to 28 days; air freight from DXB into Brussels Airport — a major dedicated cargo gateway — is roughly seven to eight hours direct. Belgium’s value as an entry point is its reach: clearing customs in Antwerp clears the goods into the entire single market, which simplifies onward distribution into the Netherlands, France, Germany and Luxembourg from a country purpose-built for exactly that.
Sea freight
The economical choice for larger volumes and bulk consignments — full container or consolidated loads via Jebel Ali into Antwerp-Bruges or Zeebrugge, with bonded storage at the port available where clearance is staged.
Air freight
For time-critical cargo — high-value goods, urgent equipment or consignments that cannot wait on sea transit — direct DXB to Brussels Airport, with onward connections across the region.
EU customs & EORI
Belgian import documentation prepared and submitted electronically — HS classification, EORI registration, valuation and supporting records done correctly the first time.
Onward road delivery
From the Belgian port or airport to the final commercial address — anywhere in Belgium, or onward into wider Europe under EU transit procedures where required.
Belgian customs, EORI and import VAT
Belgian customs operates under the EU’s Union Customs Code, and every commercial importer needs an EORI — an Economic Operators Registration and Identification number — registered before cargo can clear in its name. Standard Belgian import VAT is 21%, applied on top of any customs duty, and is recoverable for VAT-registered businesses through the normal VAT return. Belgium also operates a deferment scheme — the ET 14000 licence — that allows import VAT to be accounted for through the periodic VAT return rather than paid in cash at the border, a meaningful cashflow benefit for regular importers. Goods of qualifying UAE origin may attract preferential duty treatment where a valid origin certificate accompanies the shipment, and we arrange this with the UAE exporter where it applies.
For cargo destined onward into other EU member states, or for goods that need to move under suspension to a bonded warehouse, we use the EU’s external and internal transit procedures so that duty and VAT are settled at the correct point in the chain. For temporary movements — exhibition stock, demonstration equipment, professional tooling — an ATA carnet is frequently the cleanest mechanism, and we prepare and present it for clearance.
Why classification accuracy matters on this corridor
The HS code assigned to a consignment sets the duty rate, the VAT base and any licensing or restriction that applies. An incorrect classification produces delays, retrospective duty assessments, interest and compliance exposure that cost far more than getting it right at the start. We do not guess at classification — we confirm it before the cargo moves and document the reasoning, so that any later query from Belgian customs is answered directly from the file rather than reconstructed under pressure.
Bonded warehousing and staged clearance
For larger UAE shippers, bonded warehouse storage at Antwerp keeps cargo in customs suspension until the goods are actually needed — useful when the inland customer is not ready, when import VAT cashflow needs managing, or when a consignment will be split across several onward destinations. We coordinate the warehouse, the staged clearance and the inland trucking onward to Brussels, Ghent, Liège and the wider region.
How a commercial shipment runs
- Brief us. What is shipping, its HS classification if known, value, weight and dimensions, the Belgian consignee’s EORI, and when it needs to arrive.
- Quote and route. You receive a clear quote setting out the freight mode, a realistic transit range, the customs treatment, the origin position if applicable, and any transit or bonded options.
- Document and book. The Belgian customs file is prepared, origin and licensing evidence is collected, vessel or aircraft space is booked, and the cargo is collected.
- Track to delivery. Your coordinator monitors the shipment through each handover, manages Belgian customs clearance, and confirms delivery at the final destination — or onward into the EU under transit.
Whether it is a single consignment or recurring freight, the corridor is the same one covered in our moving to Belgium overview — and we route and document it properly. Request a freight quote and we will confirm the right approach for your cargo, the EORI and import VAT treatment, and any duty planning that applies.
Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to Belgium take?
Transit time depends on the freight mode and the volume. Your coordinator gives you a realistic window when quoting — sea freight is slower and more economical, air freight is faster for time-sensitive moves.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes. Export and import documentation is prepared and submitted on your behalf, and clearance is coordinated at both origin and destination.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance is available on every corridor. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting so you can choose what suits the shipment.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Always — a dedicated coordinator owns your move from first quote to final delivery, including the customs and freight handovers in between.
