Tuvalu is one of the smallest and most remote nations on the planet — a string of nine low-lying atolls in the central Pacific with a single international gateway. Moving there from the UAE is an exercise in careful logistics, and it is precisely the kind of corridor where experience matters. Seemleius plans the Dubai–Tuvalu route from start to finish, so a shipment that has to cross half the world arrives intact and on a schedule you can rely on.

The UAE–Tuvalu corridor is a specialist one. It carries staff joining government, development and climate-resilience programmes on Funafuti, returning Tuvaluans, and the occasional commercial consignment supporting infrastructure work. There are no direct freight links, so every move is built around a transhipment hub — and knowing how to sequence that hub connection is the difference between a smooth move and a stranded container.

Freight routes & customs

Sea freight from Jebel Ali does not run direct to Tuvalu. Containers ship to a regional hub — commonly Suva in Fiji — then tranship onto a Pacific feeder service into Funafuti, the country’s only port. Allow a transit window of roughly seven to ten weeks door to door, as feeder sailings are infrequent and weather-dependent. Air freight routes from DXB via Nadi, with the final leg into Funafuti International Airport on the limited regional service — suitable only for small, urgent consignments.

Customs is administered by the Tuvalu Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance. Returning residents and citizens may import used household effects free of duty where the goods have been owned and used abroad, supported by a detailed inventory and passport evidence. We prepare the declaration carefully and confirm treatment before the shipment leaves the UAE.

Hub-routed freight

Sea via Jebel Ali transhipped through Suva to Funafuti — air from DXB via Nadi for small urgent items.

Customs prepared

Tuvalu Customs Department documentation and used-goods concessions arranged and confirmed before departure.

Realistic scheduling

Feeder sailings are infrequent; we plan around the actual Pacific service calendar, not optimistic estimates.

One coordinator

A single point of contact owns the move from the UAE survey through every transhipment leg to delivery on Funafuti.

Who moves this route

The corridor is narrow but varied. Most moves are household relocations — individuals and families joining postings on Funafuti, typically shipping a modest volume of personal effects. Business and office moves are smaller in scale, usually equipment and records for government or development organisations. Commercial freight appears occasionally, supporting construction and climate-adaptation projects. Whatever the cargo, the routing logic through the Pacific hub is the same, and we handle each with the same care.

Where we deliver

Tuvalu’s population is concentrated on a handful of atolls, with the capital carrying most arrivals:

  • Funafuti — the capital and only port of entry, home to most of the population and all government services
  • Vaiaku — the administrative centre on Funafuti where government offices are based
  • Nanumea — the northernmost atoll, served by inter-island shipping
  • Nui and Nukufetau — outer atolls reached by domestic vessel from Funafuti

Deliveries beyond Funafuti depend on the inter-island boat schedule, which we factor into the plan from the outset.

How your move works

  1. Survey and quote. We assess your volume in the UAE, in person or by video, and return a clear itemised quote with the hub routing explained.
  2. Document in advance. Sailing space is booked, the transhipment leg is confirmed, and Tuvalu Customs paperwork is prepared before the shipment leaves the UAE.
  3. Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard for a long ocean transit, builds a full inventory, and dispatches from Jebel Ali or DXB.
  4. Tranship and deliver. We track the consignment through the Pacific hub, manage clearance at Funafuti, and coordinate final delivery and unpacking.

A move to Tuvalu rewards early planning. Tell us your dates and contents and we will map the corridor in detail — request a quote and your coordinator will take it from there.
