Sierra Leone sits on the West African coast, and the corridor from the UAE has grown steadily as the country rebuilds and invests in mining, agriculture and infrastructure. Moves run from Dubai and Abu Dhabi for returning Sierra Leoneans, professionals joining development and resource projects, and businesses establishing a Freetown presence. It is a long route, and a successful move depends on freight planning that accounts for the distance and the realities of West African ports — the ground Seemleius covers on the Gulf–Sierra Leone corridor.
Sierra Leone is reached by sea through Freetown’s natural deep-water harbour, one of the largest on the continent, or by air into the capital region. Because the country has limited direct connectivity with the Gulf, shipments are routed through established transhipment hubs. Knowing those routings, and preparing customs paperwork that holds up on arrival, is what keeps this move on schedule.
Freight routes and customs
Sea freight departs Jebel Ali and is transhipped — commonly via a European or North African hub, or another West African port — before discharging at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown. Transit typically runs six to nine weeks depending on the connecting service. Air freight from DXB routes into Freetown’s Lungi International Airport, usually via a connecting hub, and clears faster — generally within two to three weeks — making it suitable for urgent or smaller consignments.
Customs is administered by the National Revenue Authority. Returning residents and incoming households can generally seek relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, supported by a detailed inventory, passport and proof of the move. New goods, vehicles and commercial cargo are assessed separately. We prepare and verify the declaration in advance so the shipment is presented correctly at Freetown.

A single point of contact owns the move from the UAE survey to your Sierra Leone address — no gaps between carriers.
Who moves this route
The UAE–Sierra Leone corridor carries household relocations, professionals and their families joining mining, NGO and development organisations, and businesses shipping office equipment or commercial freight. A single shipment often combines personal effects with project or office cargo, and we plan the freight and customs treatment around that mix.
Where we deliver
We move regularly to Sierra Leone’s major cities and their surrounding regions:
- Freetown — the capital, commercial centre and port of entry for all sea freight
- Bo — the second city and the principal centre of the country’s south
- Kenema — an eastern city and a hub for the agricultural and mining regions
- Makeni — a growing northern city and provincial capital
- Koidu — a centre of the diamond-mining district in the east
How your move works
- Survey and quote. We assess volume and contents in the UAE, in person or by video, and return an itemised quote with sea and air options explained.
- Document in advance. Freight space is booked and Sierra Leone customs paperwork — inventory, transfer-of-residence evidence — is prepared before the shipment leaves.
- Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard, builds a full inventory and dispatches from Jebel Ali or DXB.
- Clear and deliver. We manage transhipment, customs clearance at Freetown and onward delivery, unpacking and reassembly at your address.
A long West African move rewards early planning and clear documentation. Tell us what you are shipping and where it needs to land — request a quote and your coordinator will build the route around it.
