Freight routes & customs

Sea freight departs Jebel Ali and routes via a transhipment hub — commonly a larger Caribbean port such as those in Trinidad — before a feeder service brings the container into the Woodbridge Bay port at Roseau, Dominica’s main commercial port. Transit is long, commonly in the region of seven to ten weeks door to door, and is the practical choice for full household volumes. Air freight from DXB connects through a US or Caribbean gateway into Douglas–Charles Airport (DOM) for urgent or smaller consignments.

Customs is administered by the Customs and Excise Division. Returning nationals and new residents may import used household goods with relief from import duties under transfer-of-residence and returning-resident provisions, subject to a detailed inventory, proof of prior ownership and residence documentation.
