Sea freight departs Jebel Ali and routes via a transhipment hub before arriving at the Port of Matadi on the Congo River, the country’s principal seaport, with onward road transport to Kinshasa. Transit is long, commonly in the region of six to ten weeks door to door including inland delivery, and is the cost-effective choice for full household volumes. Shipments to the southeast often route via the port of Dar es Salaam and overland to Lubumbashi. Air freight from DXB connects through a regional gateway into N’djili International Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa for urgent or smaller consignments.

Customs is administered by the Direction Générale des Douanes et Accises (DGDA). New residents and returning nationals may import used personal effects with relief from import duties under transfer-of-residence provisions, supported by a detailed French-language inventory, proof of prior ownership and residence or work documentation.
