Costa Rica draws a particular kind of move from the UAE — people trading the pace of the Gulf for the green, deliberate rhythm of Central America. Whether it is a retirement to the Central Valley, a remote-working family heading for the Pacific coast, or a business entering the country’s growing services sector, the Dubai–Costa Rica corridor rewards careful planning. Seemleius handles that planning from start to finish.

It is a long route, and an honest mover says so. There is no short sea lane between the UAE and Central America. Costa Rica also takes its customs and biosecurity rules seriously — it protects its environment closely. We build your move around the corridor’s real timelines.

Freight routes & customs

Sea freight leaves Jebel Ali and routes via a transhipment hub — typically Panama or a US East Coast port — before arriving at Puerto Limón on the Caribbean coast, the country’s main container port. Transit is long, commonly six to nine weeks door to door, and is the cost-effective choice for full household volumes. Air freight from DXB connects through a European or US gateway into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San José for urgent shipments.

Costa Rican customs is administered by the Dirección General de Aduanas through the TICA electronic system. Returning citizens and new residents may import used household goods with relief from import duties under transfer-of-residence provisions, provided the goods are owned before the move and supported by an inventory and residence documentation. Strict agricultural and biosecurity screening means wooden items and outdoor equipment must be clean and properly declared. We prepare every document before the shipment sails.

Sea & air freight

Sea via Jebel Ali and a transhipment hub into Puerto Limón for full households — air through DXB into San José (SJO) when the timeline is short.

Customs & biosecurity

TICA clearance, transfer-of-residence relief and agricultural screening prepared and verified in advance.

Honest transit ranges

A long corridor planned with realistic dates — we explain the transhipment routing clearly.

One coordinator

A single point of contact owns the move from the UAE survey to the Costa Rican delivery — no gaps between vendors.

Who moves this route

The corridor serves households of every size — retirees and families settling in the Central Valley or along the coast, with full packing, shipping and delivery. It also carries business and office relocations for companies entering Costa Rica’s services and technology sector, and commercial freight where equipment, stock or fittings move alongside the team. This single page covers all three; your coordinator scopes the right approach.

Where we deliver

We deliver across Costa Rica’s main destinations and their surrounding regions:

  • San José — the capital and Central Valley hub, the focus of most business and family arrivals
  • Heredia — a popular residential and technology-sector city just north of the capital
  • Alajuela — close to the international airport and a practical landing point
  • Cartago — the historic former capital in the eastern Central Valley
  • Liberia — the gateway to Guanacaste and the northern Pacific coast
  • Limón — the Caribbean port city and entry point for sea freight

How your move works

  1. Survey and quote. We assess volume and contents in the UAE, in person or by video, and return a clear, itemised quote with freight options explained.
  2. Document in advance. Dates are confirmed, space is booked, and Costa Rican customs and biosecurity paperwork is prepared and verified before the shipment leaves the UAE.
  3. Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard, builds a full inventory, and dispatches from Jebel Ali or DXB on the booked route.
  4. Clear and deliver. We manage clearance at the Costa Rican point of entry and coordinate onward delivery, unpacking and reassembly at your address.

The Dubai–Costa Rica corridor is long, but entirely manageable with the right preparation. Request a quote and your coordinator will map the route, the timeline and the paperwork around your move.
