Bringing your pet to Canada

Canada’s pet import requirements sit with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and depend on species, age and the province of entry. For dogs and cats coming from the UAE, the core requirements are well understood: a valid rabies vaccination certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian, a recent health certificate, and microchip identification consistent with the documentation. For puppies under three months, age-based exemptions apply but the paperwork must still match the animal. Canada does not operate a post-arrival quarantine for properly documented pets from most countries — which means the documentation genuinely does all the work, and it needs to be right.

Breed restrictions vary at the provincial and municipal level rather than federally. Ontario has historically restricted certain bull-breed types under provincial legislation, and several cities — Winnipeg among them — maintain breed-specific by-laws. If you are bringing a dog whose breed is borderline, we check the destination’s rules before the booking is firm so you are not arriving with an animal that cannot legally live at the address. Shipping your vehicle to Canada

Shipping a car from the UAE to Canada involves sea freight from Jebel Ali, UAE export documentation, Canadian import compliance and provincial registration. Most personal-use vehicles brought in by new Canadian residents are admissible as part of settler’s effects — but the vehicle must clear Transport Canada’s admissibility list and meet the safety and emissions standards that apply on the Canadian side. The Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) programme handles the federal compliance step: the vehicle is registered with RIV at the port, a Form 1 is issued, and the vehicle must pass a federal inspection within 45 days at an authorised inspection centre before it can be plated provincially.

Provincial registration sits on top of that. Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec each have their own provincial sales tax treatment on imported used vehicles (PST or QST), their own safety standards certificate or mechanical inspection process, and their own emissions or out-of-province inspection requirements. Where the vehicle is a classic or collector model (typically 15 years or older), several provinces offer relief or modified inspection paths, but the qualifying age and the relief vary, so we check the destination province before committing the booking.
