Moving to Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is one of the eastern Caribbean’s most recognisable islands, and a move there from the UAE is a long-haul relocation built around careful freight connections. As a single-island nation, Saint Lucia has no direct sea or air link from the Gulf, so every shipment connects through an established hub. Freight routes and customs

Because the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to commercial shipping since February 2026, containers first travel by road to a port outside the strait, such as Fujairah or Khor Fakkan on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman. Sea freight then routes via a transhipment hub — often a major Caribbean port such as Kingston in Jamaica or Caucedo in the Dominican Republic — before a regional feeder service brings containers into Port Castries, the island’s main commercial port, or Vieux Fort in the south. For full-container volumes, the routing and sailing dates are confirmed at the survey. Air freight leaves DXB and connects through a North American or Caribbean hub into Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort.

Customs is administered by the Saint Lucia Customs and Excise Department. Returning nationals and qualifying new residents may claim relief on used household effects, subject to proof of prior ownership and residency intent. A detailed valued inventory, passport and immigration or citizenship documentation are required. We prepare the customs file in advance so clearance at Castries proceeds cleanly.
