Removals to Italy: what your quote includes

Your fixed, itemised quote covers:

• A free in-home or video survey in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.
• Export packing by trained crews, crates for art, antiques, glass and other fragile pieces, and furniture dismantling and reassembly.
• Export documents prepared in Dubai, and the list of household goods that Italian customs asks for.
• Sea freight in a full or shared container, depending on volume, and air freight for the essentials you need first.
• Customs clearance in Italy with our destination partner.
• Delivery, placement room by room and unpacking.
• Transit insurance available (terms confirmed with your quote).
• Storage in Dubai, short or long term, if your Italian home is not ready: see household goods storage.

Italian customs relief: forms F-01 A and F-01 B

Italian Customs (ADM) lets people moving their normal residence to Italy from outside the EU bring their household goods in free of duty and VAT, under Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009, articles 3 to 11; for VAT it also cites D.M. 489/1997 and Directive 2009/132/EC. The conditions:

• you have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months;
• you possessed the goods for at least six months before leaving, and they keep the same use;
• they are declared within 12 months of establishing residence in Italy, and may arrive in several consignments;
• for 12 months after import they are not lent, pledged, rented or given away without telling the customs office first.

ADM has two request forms. Mod. F-01 A, without a guarantee, is for people who established Italian residence no more than 12 months earlier. Mod. F-01 B, with a guarantee, is for people who will move their residence within six months; the deposit is not refunded if the self-declaration of Italian residence is not presented to ADM within six months of import.

The F-01 A attachments are:

• proof of residence abroad: an employer's attestation, a lease or property title, or AIRE registration or a consular certificate;
• proof of Italian residence: a self-declaration replacing the residence certificate (art. 46 DPR 445/2000), or a copy of your residence application with a lease, utility contract or employment contract;
• the lista masserizie ed effetti personali (the list of household goods and personal effects) and a copy of your ID;
• for a vehicle, the foreign registration document or other proof of use abroad for at least six months.

We draw up the lista masserizie from our packing inventory and prepare the export documents. You provide the proofs of residence, your ID and your codice fiscale, which the form asks for, and sign the declarations, which are made under DPR 445/2000 with criminal penalties for false statements. The import can be handled by you or by a delegate.

Not covered: alcohol and tobacco, commercial means of transport, professional materials other than portable tools, and goods that are banned or need a licence from another authority. Meat and dairy products cannot be brought in from outside the EU, plant products need a phytosanitary certificate, and honey is limited to 2 kg.

Shipping to Genoa and other Italian ports

Since 28 February 2026 the Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed to commercial shipping. Containers from the UAE currently go by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the east coast or Sohar in Oman, and schedules are longer and less predictable than before.

Genoa and Savona-Vado, run by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, handled more than 1.4 million twenty-foot container units in the first half of 2026. Services that Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd began moving back to the Suez route in September 2026 include calls at Genoa, subject to stability in the Red Sea.

The arrival port is chosen to suit your address and the sailings available, and we confirm the routing and dates at your survey rather than quote old Jebel Ali transit times.

How your move to Italy runs

• Survey: your coordinator goes through every room with you and checks your dates against the residence rules that decide between F-01 A and F-01 B.
• Quote: a fixed, itemised quote with the current routing.
• Packing day: trained crews pack, crate and load, and the lista masserizie is drawn up as they work.
• Departure: export documents are completed in Dubai and the container goes by road to the departure port.
• Arrival and clearance: the F-01 request goes to the competent customs office and our destination partner clears your goods.
• Delivery: the partner crew delivers, reassembles furniture and unpacks.

Delivering to Milan, Rome, Turin, Florence and Bologna

Our destination partner delivers to homes in Milan, Rome, Turin, Florence and Bologna, and your Seemleius coordinator stays your contact until the last box is unpacked.

Before delivery, your coordinator goes through access with you: where the truck can stop, the size of the lift, stairs and floors, and any large pieces that need special handling, then agrees a delivery date once your goods are cleared.

Pets and vehicles

Pets travel as a separate service: see pet relocation. A private car can be part of the relief if you can show at least six months' use abroad, with its foreign registration document or other proof; commercial means of transport are not covered. Ask us about vehicle shipping.
