Saudi customs rules for used household goods
A move between GCC countries still goes through customs. Household goods arriving by road are declared to ZATCA, Saudi Arabia's customs authority, on a land cargo manifest, and you should expect the shipment to be inspected in full.
The duty exemption covers used goods for personal use that arrive within six months of your arrival to live in Saudi Arabia, and foreigners have to prove that it is their first arrival. New items aren't covered and need their receipts; cars are excluded. Whether moving from the UAE counts as a first arrival in your case is for customs to decide, so we check your situation at the survey instead of promising a duty-free result.
- You provide: your passport, a copy of your iqama or national ID, proof of your first arrival, and receipts for any new items.
- We prepare: the itemised packing list, the UAE export declaration (Abu Dhabi Customs has required it in advance at Al Ghuwaifat since September 2023) and the land cargo manifest. Clearance is handled with our destination partner.
- Timing: the customs broker is authorised online through FASAH once your iqama is issued, and you need to be in Saudi Arabia when the goods are cleared.
Do not pack: alcohol, pork products, narcotics, pornography (including on storage devices), weapons, fireworks, hidden-camera or eavesdropping devices, publications that break Ministry of Media rules, unregistered pills and herbs, and nutmeg. Approval needed: medicines, religious books, drones and other radio-controlled aircraft, wireless equipment, and products containing alcohol, such as perfume.
The road route: Al Ghuwaifat to Al Batha
There is only one land border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia: Al Ghuwaifat on the UAE side and Al Batha on the Saudi side. By road from our base in Dubai Investment Park, it's about 780 km to Dammam, 1,040 km to Riyadh and 1,990 km to Jeddah on the Red Sea coast.
The border is the part that varies. A May 2026 freight update estimated 24–48 hours for a truck to cross, and in July 2026 queues at Al Batha ranged from a few hours to several days. That's why loading and delivery dates are confirmed at your survey, once we know your volume, your city and when your iqama will be ready.
Road moves don't pass through the Strait of Hormuz, so its closure to commercial shipping since 28 February 2026 doesn't affect this route. Sea bookings to Saudi Arabia's Gulf ports, Dammam and Jubail, are currently suspended.
How your move runs
- Survey: a coordinator visits your home, lists what's moving and flags anything fragile, valuable or restricted.
- Fixed quote: you receive a fixed, itemised quote and the list of documents Saudi customs will need from you.
- Packing day: the crew packs, crates and dismantles, writes the inventory and loads the truck.
- Departure: the export declaration is lodged and the truck leaves for Al Ghuwaifat.
- Arrival and clearance: the goods enter at Al Batha and are cleared with our destination partner while you're in Saudi Arabia.
- Delivery: we deliver within the city's truck hours, reassemble the furniture and unpack.
Relocation services in Saudi Arabia: where we deliver
Moving to Jeddah
Jeddah is the longest of the main Saudi runs, about 1,990 km from our base. Packing in the UAE, then delivery and unpacking at your new address in Al Rawdah, Al Shati, Obhur or elsewhere in the city, form one move with one coordinator. Truck hours in Jeddah change by season, for example during Ramadan, and we plan the delivery around them.
Movers and packers for Dammam, Al Khobar and Dhahran
The Eastern Province is the shortest Saudi run: Dammam is about 780 km from our base, with Al Khobar and Dhahran alongside it. We deliver to homes across all three. Truck hours are restricted there too and change by season, so your delivery slot is booked around the rules in force on your date.
Riyadh and other cities
Riyadh, about 1,040 km from our base, has its own page on districts, compounds and truck hours: moving to Riyadh from Dubai. We also deliver to other Saudi cities; give us the address at the survey and we'll plan the route.
Cars and pets
Cars aren't covered by the household goods exemption and are moved as a separate service: see vehicle shipping. Pets travel separately too; see pet relocation. Mention both at the survey so they're planned alongside your household.
Storage in Dubai until your iqama is ready
Clearance needs your iqama and you in Saudi Arabia. If you'd rather pack before you fly and send the goods once you're settled, we can keep your household in storage in Dubai, short or long term. Keep the six-month window in mind: the exemption covers goods that arrive within six months of your own arrival.
Book your free home survey
The survey is 100% free, with no obligation. A coordinator walks through your home in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, notes the volume, the fragile pieces and the access at both ends, and asks when your iqama is expected. You then get a fixed, itemised quote.
Book through the quote form on this page or at seemleius.com/get-quote, or call or WhatsApp +971 56 899 2011.

Questions about moving to Saudi Arabia from Dubai
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usShould I book a moving company in Jeddah or one in the UAE?
Book where the move starts. Packing, the itemised inventory, the export declaration and the land cargo manifest are all done in the UAE before the truck leaves. We handle that end, then clear and deliver in Saudi Arabia with our destination partner, so you have one quote and one coordinator instead of two companies to line up.
Are my household goods duty-free in Saudi Arabia?
They can be, if they meet ZATCA's conditions: used goods for personal use, arriving within six months of your arrival to reside, with proof that it is your first arrival. New items aren't covered and need receipts; cars are excluded. Whether a move from the UAE counts as a first arrival is decided by customs, so we check your case at the survey and don't promise a duty-free result.
Do I need to be in Saudi Arabia when my goods are cleared?
Yes. You need to be in the country at clearance, and the customs broker is authorised online through FASAH once your iqama has been issued. If your iqama is still in progress, we can hold your goods in storage in Dubai and send them when you're ready, within the six-month window.
How long does the road move to Jeddah or Dammam take?
Dates are confirmed at your survey rather than quoted as a standard number of days. Dammam is about 780 km from our base and Jeddah about 1,990 km, and both cross at Al Ghuwaifat–Al Batha. A May 2026 freight update estimated 24–48 hours for the crossing itself, but queues in July 2026 ran from a few hours to several days.
Is the Strait of Hormuz closure affecting moves to Saudi Arabia?
Not by road. A road move crosses at Al Ghuwaifat–Al Batha and never uses the strait, which has been effectively closed to commercial shipping since 28 February 2026. Sea bookings to the Saudi Gulf ports of Dammam and Jubail are currently suspended, so we move households to Saudi Arabia by road.
How do movers from Dubai to Saudi Arabia price a move?
By the volume of your household, the city (Jeddah is more than twice as far as Dammam), access at both homes such as floors, lifts and parking, the packing and crating needed, and any storage or transit insurance you add. The free survey measures all of this, and you then get a fixed, itemised quote with no obligation.
Can you collect from Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai?
Yes. We collect from homes across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Every road move to Saudi Arabia leaves the UAE at Al Ghuwaifat, at the far western end of Abu Dhabi emirate, so an Abu Dhabi pickup is on the way.
