From Dubai or Abu Dhabi to your new home in the UK

Looking for international movers from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to the UK who will take care of everything between your home and your new front door? Seemleius surveys and packs your home, prepares the export papers and the item list for your ToR1 customs relief, ships your belongings and delivers them anywhere in the UK, from a London flat to a house in Manchester or a family home near Edinburgh.

A relocation to the UK involves two sets of rules: UAE export at one end and British customs at the other. One coordinator runs your move from the first survey to the last box unpacked.

At the UK end, customs clearance, delivery and unpacking are carried out by our destination partner, working to the plan agreed at your survey.

What our removal services to the UK include

Your fixed, itemised quote lists every service, so you can see what is covered before you book. A full household move includes:

  • A free in-home or video survey anywhere in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.
  • Export packing by trained crews, crates for fragile items and art, and furniture dismantled and reassembled.
  • UAE export documents, plus the item list and agent's letter of authority for your ToR1 application.
  • Sea freight in a full or shared container, depending on volume, and air freight for the things you need first.
  • Customs clearance in the UK by our destination partner.
  • Delivery, placement room by room and unpacking.
  • Transit insurance available (terms confirmed with your quote).
  • Storage in Dubai, short or long term, if your UK home is not ready yet.

UK customs: Transfer of Residence relief and ToR1

Used household goods can enter Great Britain free of import duty and VAT under Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief. It is open to anyone making the UK their main home, not only people moving back. The conditions:

  • You have lived outside the UK for at least 12 consecutive months.
  • You have had the goods for at least 6 months and will use them the same way in the UK.
  • They arrive within 12 months of your move. Several consignments are allowed.
  • The UK becomes your main home. Goods from a second or holiday home do not qualify.

Apply for ToR1 before anything ships. HMRC must approve the relief first. You apply online and receive a reference number, which our destination partner quotes on the import declaration. Without a valid reference, you may be billed duties and administration charges.

What ToR1 needs from you: your passport photo page, proof of your UK address from the last 3 months (a host's statement or a hotel booking also works) and proof of your address outside the UK from the last 6 months. If pets or a car are coming, add pet certificates or passports and the vehicle details: VIN, registration and purchase date.

What we prepare: the list of your items, grouped with estimated counts, and the letter of authority that lets our destination partner act for you. ToR1 asks for no values, receipts or brands. As a private person moving goods for your own use only (not controlled goods), you do not need an EORI number.

Not covered: alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and non-portable work equipment. For 12 months after import, relieved goods cannot be lent, hired out or transferred. The relief does not replace licences for restricted goods. Controlled drugs, offensive weapons, self-defence sprays and endangered species are banned, as are personal meat and dairy from most non-EU countries. Firearms need a licence, and exotic leather or furs may need CITES permits.

These rules are for Great Britain. If you are moving to Northern Ireland, tell us at the survey and your coordinator will confirm the procedure that applies.

Shipping furniture from Dubai to the UK in 2026

Household goods for the UK normally travel by sea to Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway, then by road to your door.

Since 28 February 2026 the Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed to commercial shipping. UAE containers now go by road from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the east coast or Sohar in Oman, and sail from there. Schedules are longer and less predictable than before, so pre-2026 sailing times no longer apply.

As a guide, CMA CGM's September 2026 schedule starts at Duqm in Oman and lists 37 days from there to Southampton, port to port; the road and feeder legs from the UAE, clearance and delivery come on top. We confirm your routing and dates at the survey and keep you updated as the booking firms up. Air freight can bring the essentials sooner.

How moving from Dubai to the UK works

  • Survey: a coordinator visits your home, lists what is going and asks about access at the UK address.
  • Fixed quote: an itemised quote. Nothing is booked until you accept it.
  • ToR1: you apply online using the item list we prepare, and send us the reference number.
  • Packing day: crews pack, crate and dismantle, and every item goes on the inventory.
  • Departure: your container travels by road to the departure port and sails.
  • Arrival and clearance: our UK partner clears the goods at the port on your ToR1 reference.
  • Delivery: furniture is placed and reassembled, and your boxes are unpacked.

Where we deliver in the UK

We deliver to homes across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Before delivery day, our partner checks access at your new address, including parking for the truck, stairs and lifts, and plans the vehicle around your street.

  • London: borough parking suspensions, red routes and the night and weekend lorry controls all shape delivery day. Our London removals page explains how we plan around them.
  • Manchester and the North West: the coordinator who oversaw your packing in the UAE also runs the delivery, so you won't need a second removal company in Manchester. Whether you are moving into a city-centre flat or a suburban house, everything is delivered and checked against the same inventory.
  • Edinburgh removals and deliveries across Scotland, including Glasgow and Aberdeen.
  • Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Cardiff, and the towns and villages in between.

Pets and cars

Pets and vehicles travel as separate services, planned alongside your household goods. For a car, our destination partner makes the import declaration, you tell HMRC through NOVA within 14 days of arrival, and the car needs vehicle approval and DVLA registration before you drive it. See pet relocation and vehicle shipping.

Book your free home survey

The survey is 100% free and there is no obligation. A coordinator walks through your home with you, notes what goes by sea, what goes by air and what stays behind, and answers your ToR1 questions. A fixed, itemised quote follows.

Getting several quotes? Ask each relocation company for the UK to base its quote on a survey of your home, so that you compare the same volume and the same services.

Book through the quote form on this page or at seemleius.com/get-quote, or call or WhatsApp us on +971 56 899 2011.

Questions about moving to the UK from Dubai

Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.

Contact us
How much do international movers to the UK charge for a move from Dubai?

It depends on the volume of your goods, whether they fill a container or share one, how much goes by air, the packing and crating needed, access at both addresses and any storage. That is why we survey first: the free in-home survey measures your volume, and you receive a fixed, itemised quote with no obligation.

When should I apply for ToR1?

Before your goods ship. HMRC approves the relief online and gives you a reference number, which our destination partner quotes on the import declaration. Without it you may be billed duties and administration charges. If duty has already been paid on a full customs declaration, you can still claim it back late on form C285.

Do I need an EORI number to move my household goods to the UK?

No. A private person moving goods for personal use only (not controlled goods) does not need an EORI number. What the declaration needs is your ToR1 reference, and our destination partner adds it for you.

Can I ship my belongings before I have a UK address?

Yes. ToR1 asks for proof of a UK address from the last 3 months, but a host's statement or a hotel booking is accepted. If you would rather wait until you have a home, we can store your goods in Dubai and ship when you are ready, as long as they arrive within 12 months of your move.

Is shipping furniture from Dubai to the UK worth it?

For good pieces you would otherwise replace, usually yes: under ToR relief they come in without duty or VAT. It makes less sense for very large items that may not fit your new rooms, so measure before you decide. At the survey we go through the rooms with you and agree what is worth shipping.

How long does a move to the UK take at the moment?

Longer than before 2026. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed since 28 February 2026, containers go by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan, Fujairah or Sohar, and sail from there to Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway. We confirm the routing and an estimated delivery window at your survey, and air freight is the faster option for essentials.
