Dubai to Doha: a road move with two borders

Moving from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Qatar? By road, every moving company to Doha faces the same two borders: the truck crosses into Saudi Arabia at Al Ghuwaifat–Al Batha, then into Qatar at Salwa–Abu Samra. As your movers from Dubai to Qatar, we handle the whole move, from the survey and export packing in the UAE to delivery and unpacking in Doha, Lusail or The Pearl.

We move families and professionals going to Qatar for work, which is also who Qatar's customs exemption is written for.

Qatar movers and packers: what's included

Quotes from international movers for Qatar only compare well if they cover the same work. Ours is fixed and itemised, and includes:

  • A 100% free in-home or video survey in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.
  • Export packing by trained crews, with crating for art, glass and other fragile pieces.
  • Furniture dismantling in the UAE and reassembly in your new home.
  • The detailed packing list and the UAE export documents, prepared in Dubai.
  • Road transport through Saudi Arabia to your new address in Qatar.
  • Customs clearance in Qatar with our destination partner.
  • Delivery, placement and unpacking.
  • Transit insurance available (terms confirmed with your quote).
  • Storage in Dubai, short or long term, if your dates don't line up.

Qatar customs: the exemption for used household goods

Qatar Customs exempts the used household goods of non-Qataris coming to work, as long as they arrive within six months of your entry to Qatar. They must be for personal use and in normal quantities; new items and cars are not exempt. The exemption is conditional, not automatic, so we check your case at the survey. If your employer is arranging relocation services, Qatar Customs still needs the employer letter, so ask HR for it early.

  • From you: an employer letter (in practice, a no-objection letter in Arabic on company letterhead), a copy of your QID showing your employer, a passport copy, invoices for any new items, and a pledge not to dispose of the goods for one year.
  • From us: the detailed packing list, the UAE export documents and the land manifest, and clearance with our destination partner.
  • Before clearance: your residence permit and QID must be in place, and the clearing agent is authorised online using a mobile number registered to your QID.
  • Keep: your copy of the customs-stamped declaration; it is shown when you leave Qatar.

Every shipment is inspected in full, and books and discs are screened. Do not pack: alcoholic drinks, pork products, drugs, weapons and explosives, e-cigarettes, goods with Israeli components, or books, films and discs that customs considers immoral. Drones fall under the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, and those covered by Law No. 10 of 2026 must be registered. Other restricted goods need a permit before they arrive.

International removals to Qatar: the road route

There's no direct road from the UAE to Qatar. The truck leaves the UAE at Al Ghuwaifat, crosses Saudi Arabia from Al Batha to Salwa and enters Qatar at Abu Samra: about 670 km from our base in Dubai Investment Park to Doha. The Salwa–Abu Samra border has been open to cargo again since February 2021.

Each border takes time. A May 2026 freight update estimated 24–48 hours for a truck to cross at Al Ghuwaifat–Al Batha and 24–48 hours at Salwa–Abu Samra, where priority went to fast-moving consumer goods and pharmaceuticals. We confirm loading and delivery dates at your survey, once we know your volume and when your QID will be ready.

Road moves don't pass through the Strait of Hormuz, so its closure to commercial shipping since 28 February 2026 doesn't affect this route. Sea access to Qatar's ports has been constrained by the closure.

How your move to Qatar runs

  • Survey: a coordinator visits your home, lists what's moving and flags restricted items.
  • Fixed quote: a fixed, itemised quote, plus the documents Qatar Customs will need from you and your employer.
  • Packing day: the crew packs, crates and dismantles, writes the packing list and loads the truck.
  • Departure: the export documents are completed and the truck heads for Al Ghuwaifat.
  • Arrival and clearance: the goods enter Qatar at Abu Samra and are cleared with our destination partner.
  • Delivery: we deliver outside Doha's truck-ban hours, reassemble the furniture and unpack.

Movers and packers in Doha: where we deliver

Most moves to Qatar end in Doha, whether in West Bay, Al Sadd, Al Waab, Msheireb or one of the compounds around the city. We also deliver to Lusail, The Pearl, Al Wakrah and Al Rayyan.

For international movers in Doha, the city's truck rules shape the delivery day. Under the current rules, which the traffic authorities set and can change, trucks may not enter the city from 6 to 8 a.m., 12 to 3 p.m. or 5 to 8 p.m. without an exception permit, issued through the Ministry of Interior website or Metrash2, and 22 February Street is closed to trucks at all times. We plan your delivery around the rules in force on the day.

Moving into a tower at The Pearl or in Lusail? If the building has move-in rules, such as booked hours or a service lift, send them to your coordinator before delivery day.

Cars and pets

Cars are not covered by the household goods exemption, so a car is moved as a separate service: see vehicle shipping. Pets travel separately as well: see pet relocation.

Storage in Dubai until your QID is ready

Clearance needs your QID, so if you start work in Qatar before it's issued, we can keep your household in storage in Dubai and send it when you're ready. Keep the six-month window in mind: the exemption covers goods that arrive within six months of your entry.

Book your free home survey

The survey is 100% free and there's no obligation. A coordinator walks through your home in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, notes the volume, the fragile pieces and the access at both ends, and checks where you are with your employer letter and QID. You then get a fixed, itemised quote.

Book through the quote form on this page or at seemleius.com/get-quote, or call or WhatsApp +971 56 899 2011.

Questions about moving to Qatar from Dubai

Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.

Contact us
Is it better to hire a moving company in Doha or one in the UAE?

Start where your goods are. The packing, the detailed packing list and the export documents all happen at your home in Dubai or Abu Dhabi before the truck leaves. We handle that end, then clear and deliver in Qatar with our destination partner, with one coordinator following the move across both borders.

Are my household goods duty-free in Qatar?

Only if you meet the conditions. The exemption covers the used household goods of non-Qataris coming to work that arrive within six months of your entry, backed by an employer letter, a QID copy showing your employer, a customs-stamped declaration and a pledge not to dispose of the goods for a year. New items and cars are not exempt, and customs decides each case, so we check yours at the survey.

Do I need my QID before my goods arrive in Qatar?

Yes. The exemption needs your residence permit and a QID copy showing your employer, and the clearing agent is authorised online with a mobile number registered to your QID. If yours isn't ready, we can keep your goods in storage in Dubai and send them once it is, within the six-month window.

How long does the road move from Dubai to Doha take?

Dates are confirmed at your survey rather than quoted as a standard number of days. Doha is about 670 km from our base, but the truck crosses two borders, and a May 2026 freight update estimated 24–48 hours at each: Al Ghuwaifat–Al Batha and Salwa–Abu Samra.

Can I pack alcohol, a vape or a drone for Qatar?

Alcohol and vapes, no: alcoholic drinks are prohibited, and e-cigarette devices are on Qatar Customs' forbidden list. A drone isn't banned outright, but its import is controlled by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority under Law No. 10 of 2026, and drones covered by the law must be registered. Tell us about it at the survey.

What do movers from Dubai to Qatar charge for a move to Doha?

It depends on the volume of your household, access at both homes such as floors, lifts and parking, how much packing and crating you need, your delivery address in Qatar, and whether you add storage or transit insurance. The free survey measures all of this, and you then get a fixed, itemised quote with no obligation.

Is the Strait of Hormuz closure affecting moves to Qatar?

Not by road. The route runs overland through Saudi Arabia and never uses the strait, which has been effectively closed to commercial shipping since 28 February 2026. Sea access to Qatar's ports has been constrained by the closure; the land route is not affected by it.
