Employee relocations from the UAE to Oman come from two distinct places on the corporate side. Energy and industrial companies move technical personnel to Sohar Port’s industrial area, the Salalah industrial zone and the emerging operations in Duqm; professional services, banking and consulting businesses bring people to Muscat. For the HR and mobility teams managing those moves, the geography may be different but the programme requirement is the same: every employee move needs to run consistently, with proper documentation and without HR absorbing the coordination work themselves.

One programme, different destinations

The Oman corridor is not a single route. Muscat via Hatta, Sohar via Khatmat Malaha, Duqm via Mezyad and Salalah on the long road south each have different road distances from the UAE, different access arrangements and different local delivery contexts. An employee relocation programme needs to handle all of them to the same standard, with the same documentation and the same employee experience, regardless of which city the person is going to. We manage that variation inside the programme so HR does not have to.

Visas and what the programme works around

Visas and work permits sit with the Omani authorities and your PRO; we plan the household shipment around the dates they confirm, so the goods arrive when the family can actually be in residence.

Where employees land in Oman

Most relocating employees land in Greater Muscat, and the housing options are reasonably defined. Al Mouj Muscat (formerly The Wave) is a common choice for senior corporate moves; the compound villa communities in Bawshar and Madinat Qaboos serve the family relocations; apartment moves into Al Khuwair and Qurum cover the mid-tier and single-status assignments. The right delivery plan depends on whether the property is an apartment in a managed building, a compound villa or a standalone house — and we confirm that on the survey, not on the day.

What the programme provides

Consistent across all Oman destinations

Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and Duqm all run to the same programme standard — same documentation format, same employee contact point, same reporting to HR.

Policy-aligned from the start

Your relocation policy is mapped to our programme once — entitlements, volume bands, expense thresholds. Every subsequent Oman move runs to those rules without HR policing each individual case.

Single coordinator for the employee

The relocating person has one point of contact from survey to delivery. Their questions go to the coordinator, not back to HR.

Clean documentation for finance

Quotes, inventories and invoices produced in a consistent format across every move — straightforward for finance and mobility records to process.

What the employee experiences

Moving to Oman often represents a genuine change of pace for the employee — the move out of the Dubai or Abu Dhabi high-rise into a quieter Muscat villa or compound is part of the appeal — and the relocation itself should reflect that. One coordinator who knows the corridor, knows the Hatta border timing, knows the Muscat delivery specifics and can give straight answers about whether the shipment will be in the house on the day the lease starts reduces the employee’s stress considerably. We handle the logistics; they get settled. The school admissions calendar — British School Muscat, American British Academy, Indian School Muscat — runs on its own clock and we sequence the family arrival against it where the programme covers it.

How the programme runs

  1. Align the programme. We work through your mobility policy once — entitlements, approval thresholds, documentation requirements — and set the programme up to run against those rules.
  2. Initiate a move. HR refers the employee; we survey, produce a policy-checked quote and confirm the move plan against the visa and entry timeline.
  3. Manage the relocation. Packing, road freight via the right Oman border crossing, Bayan customs clearance and destination delivery are coordinated by the employee’s coordinator, with HR updated at agreed milestones.
  4. Report and close. Consistent documentation delivered after every completed move for your records.

Whether your Oman programme covers three moves a year or thirty, the service runs the same way. Talk to us about your mobility needs and we will set the programme up to run cleanly.

Common questions about this move

How long does a move to Oman take?

It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.

Do you handle customs at both ends?

Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.

Is my shipment insured in transit?

Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.

Will I have one point of contact?

Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
