Freight routes and Moldovan customs

Because the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to commercial shipping since February 2026, sea freight first travels by road to a port outside it, such as Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, then sails for the Romanian port of Constanța — the most efficient gateway for Moldova — with onward road haulage across the border to Chișinău. The small river port of Giurgiulești on the Danube is also an option for certain consignments, and routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Air freight from DXB connects via a European hub into Chișinău International Airport, with door-to-door timelines of typically one to two weeks when speed matters.

Moldovan customs is administered by the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova. Individuals transferring their residence to Moldova can import used personal property with relief from import duties, subject to prior ownership and use and to proof of residence transfer.
