Most household moves from the UAE to Malaysia share a common thread: they are chosen moves. People select Malaysia — for the lifestyle, the cost of living, the MM2H residency programme, proximity to family, or the character of a city like Penang — and then organise their lives around that decision. The household often comes in its entirety, because this is not a posting for two years; it is somewhere people are building a home. Seemleius household and personal relocation to Malaysia is planned with that seriousness of intent in mind.
The sea corridor from the UAE to Port Klang
The majority of household shipments from the UAE to Malaysia travel by sea to Port Klang, the West Coast container port serving the Kuala Lumpur region. Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, containers first go by road to a port outside the strait, such as Fujairah or Khor Fakkan on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Penang Port (Butterworth) is used for households settling in George Town or on the island, and Tanjung Pelepas in Johor is the option for movers heading to Iskandar Puteri or southern Peninsular Malaysia. From whichever port the container lands at, our coordinator handles inland transport to your Malaysian address — from Mont Kiara to Bangsar, Damansara Heights to KLCC, or further afield.
Air freight from Dubai to Kuala Lumpur International (DXB–KUL, around seven hours direct) is available for priority items — clothes for the first weeks, electronics, items that cannot wait for the sea shipment — and a split shipment (air for essentials, sea for the main household) is a common and practical approach on this corridor.
Where families settle — and what that means for delivery
Kuala Lumpur draws the largest share of households moving from the UAE. Families with school-age children gravitate to Mont Kiara, Bangsar, Damansara Heights or the residential pockets around KLCC, often choosing the postcode based on the international school catchment — Mont Kiara International School (MKIS), Garden International School, Alice Smith School, the IGB International School at Sierramas, or Sayfol International School. Penang attracts MM2H families and remote-working professionals; Johor Bahru works for those splitting time with Singapore. Our destination partner delivers to all three regions and handles the gated-community access protocols, condo move-in scheduling and lift bookings as part of the standard service.
What typically moves from UAE to Malaysia
A full household move on this corridor often includes more than a corporate transfer would. Families settling long-term bring the full contents of a home; MM2H movers may ship furniture they have accumulated over years in the UAE. We handle the complete inventory:
- Furniture — dismantled, wrapped and reassembled on delivery at the Malaysian property
- Appliances — noting that Malaysia runs on 240V / 50Hz (compatible with UAE appliances, which also run on 220–240V) on UK-style three-pin sockets
- Fragile items, art, mirrors and glassware — crated and cushioned for the sea transit
- Clothing, books, kitchenware and the everyday contents of a settled home
- Outdoor and garden items — cleaned before packing, as Malaysian Customs and the Department of Agriculture may inspect for plant matter and soil residue
Malaysian customs for household goods
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) can exempt used household and personal effects imported by people transferring their residence to Malaysia. The exemption claim is supported by the full written inventory we build at packing. Whether the exemption applies depends on your residence status and on RMCD’s conditions, including that the goods are for personal use rather than resale, so we go through your position with you before the shipment sails.
Certain categories require additional consideration: alcoholic beverages attract duty and SST with no household exemption; high-power electrical appliances may require Malaysian Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) compliance; and items containing wood, plant material or animal products may need clearance from the Department of Agriculture or the Department of Veterinary Services. We flag these before packing, not after clearance, so nothing is opened or detained at Port Klang.

How your move runs
- Survey. Our coordinator assesses your home in the UAE, discusses your Malaysian destination, visa class and timeline, and confirms the freight mode — sea, air or a split shipment.
- Pack and inventory. Our crew packs to export standard and builds the full written inventory before anything is loaded or sealed.
- Ship to Port Klang. The shipment travels on the booked sea route from the departure port; customs documentation is prepared in advance of the vessel’s arrival and lodged on uCustoms.
- Clear and deliver. RMCD clearance is managed; the shipment is transported from Port Klang (or Penang / Tanjung Pelepas) to your Malaysian home and unpacked on delivery.
A move to Malaysia that is planned well travels cleanly. Request your quote and we will build the plan around your destination and your dates.

Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to Malaysia take?
It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
