HR and mobility teams relocate employees from the UAE to Germany across the energy, engineering, financial services and technology sectors. The difficulty is not any one move; it is making dozens of them consistent, compliant and manageable from a programme perspective. Seemleius employee relocation to Germany is built for that scale, with the documentation discipline that the German Zoll requires.

Why Germany moves need programme thinking

Germany adds layers that many other destinations do not. Work visas and residence permits are a matter for the German authorities, and each employee should confirm their own requirements with the German embassy or consulate. On the move side, the customs and documentation requirements mean every relocation has to be prepared carefully, not just physically packed.

If that preparation is different each time — different vendors, different documentation formats, different levels of care — the inconsistency shows up in delays, variance and avoidable employee stress. We build it consistently from the start, aligned to the employee’s start date and housing so the shipment is planned for the right window.

The Anmeldung drives the shipment timeline

Germany requires every new resident to register their address at the local Bürgeramt — the Anmeldung — within fourteen days of moving in. The Anmeldung in turn issues the certificate (Meldebescheinigung) that unlocks the Steueridentifikationsnummer (tax ID), the Sozialversicherungsnummer (social insurance number), the bank account and the GKV statutory health insurance enrolment. Without it, very little else in Germany can be completed.

This has direct consequences for how the household shipment is timed. If the employee’s shipment arrives before they have a confirmed permanent address, there is nowhere to deliver it. If it arrives too late, they live out of suitcases longer than necessary. We plan the sea or air freight from the UAE to land shortly after the employee has secured housing and completed the Anmeldung, with routing and dates confirmed at the survey.

What the programme covers

Policy-aligned moves

Every relocation to Germany runs to your mobility policy — volume caps, entitlements, approvals — without requiring you to police each one.

Customs handled for each employee

German Zoll documentation, ATLAS clearance and the Form 0350 Übersiedlungsgut declaration prepared accurately for every move — the employee signs the form and supplies the proofs, and HR does not need to navigate it.

Employee support

The relocating person has one coordinator from UAE survey to German delivery — reducing stress and the questions that would otherwise come back to HR.

Consistent records

Quotes, inventories and invoices in a consistent format across every move, ready for finance and mobility reporting.

Schools and the Land system

Employees moving with children encounter a school system run at the Land (state) level, not federally. The choices vary by destination: Bavaria, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg each apply their own admission rules, language-support arrangements and Gymnasium entry criteria. International schools exist in Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf, and are often the default choice for employees on shorter assignments. Placement often requires the Anmeldung certificate, which loops back to the housing and shipment timeline.

Tax, social insurance and the first month

The first month in Germany is procedural by design. The Anmeldung issues the Meldebescheinigung; the Steueridentifikationsnummer arrives by post; the employer enrols the employee in social insurance and the Sozialversicherungsnummer is issued; the GKV statutory health insurer confirms cover. We brief each relocating employee on the sequence and on having ready the documents the local registration office asks for, so their first week is about settling in, not scrambling for information.

How the programme works

  1. Align the programme. We map to your mobility policy once — entitlements, documentation standards, reporting format — so every Germany move runs the same way.
  2. Initiate a move. HR refers the employee; we survey in the UAE, prepare the German Zoll documentation, align the shipment timing with the Anmeldung deadline, and return a policy-checked quote.
  3. Manage the relocation. Packing, sea freight through a port outside the Strait of Hormuz or air via DXB, EU import clearance at Hamburg/Bremerhaven/Frankfurt, and German delivery are coordinated for the employee, with HR updated at each milestone.
  4. Report. You receive consistent documentation and status reporting across every move — ready for finance, audit and mobility programme review.

Whether you move five employees a year to Germany or run a sustained programme for a global engineering organisation, the service scales without losing consistency. Talk to us about your mobility policy and we will set the programme up properly.

Common questions about this move

Contact us
How long does a move to Germany take?

It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.

Do you handle customs at both ends?

Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.

Is my shipment insured in transit?

Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.

Will I have one point of contact?

Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
