When UAE families ask what is most complicated about a move to Cyprus, it is rarely the furniture. The family pet and the car are the two things that generate the most questions — because both are subject to EU entry requirements that are specific, time-sensitive and not always obvious from the outside. Seemleius coordinates both as a managed part of your move on the UAE–Cyprus corridor. The earlier you raise them, the better the outcome.
Pet relocation to Cyprus
Cyprus applies the EU’s third-country pet entry rules, which are detailed and strictly enforced. For animals coming from the UAE — a third country in EU terminology — the requirements are not unreasonable, but they are sequential: each step has to be completed in the correct order, and some steps carry fixed waiting periods that cannot be shortened. Miss a step or get the order wrong, and the animal cannot enter at the Cyprus border.
The core sequence for a dog or cat travelling from the UAE to Cyprus is: an ISO-compliant microchip implanted first, a primary rabies vaccination after the chip has been fitted (never before), and then the 21-day wait the EU rules set after a first vaccination before the animal can travel. An EU animal health certificate is issued by an official UAE veterinarian within a short window before travel, and the animal must arrive in Cyprus through a designated point of entry where the documentation is checked.
Because Cyprus is an island, the practical entry route for a pet is by air, so the journey is planned around the available DXB connections. We confirm the airline animal-acceptance rules, the crate requirements and the booking well in advance, because flights with pet capacity are limited and the vet steps already fix the earliest possible travel date.
- UAE microchip and rabies vaccination sequenced with full lead time before travel, including the 21-day wait after a first vaccination
- EU animal health certificate issued in the UAE within the required window before departure
- Approved air route from DXB into a designated Cyprus point of entry, with handlers who understand EU animal welfare standards
- Guidance on registering the pet locally on arrival and on any breed or licensing rules that apply
Vehicle shipping to Cyprus
Shipping a car from the UAE to Cyprus involves more than the freight. There is UAE export documentation, EU import treatment, Cyprus registration requirements and a roadworthiness inspection — and one detail catches many people out: Cyprus drives on the left, so a left-hand-drive UAE-specification vehicle, while not prohibited, is worth thinking carefully about before committing to the shipment. We handle the logistics chain and make sure the documentation is in order, and we are straightforward about the duty, registration and inspection costs so there are no surprises on arrival.
The treatment of the vehicle at Cypriot customs depends on whether it qualifies for transfer-of-residence relief. A vehicle that has been owned and used by the owner for at least six months before the move, and which the owner will continue to use in Cyprus, can usually be imported under the transfer-of-residence relief and exempted from import duty and VAT, claimed alongside the household effects, provided the owner has lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months. Without that relief, duty and VAT are payable on the customs value of the vehicle.
Once cleared, the vehicle is registered in Cyprus through the Department of Road Transport. The process includes a roadworthiness inspection (the Cypriot MOT) confirming the car meets technical and safety standards, registration of the vehicle, payment of road tax, registration of insurance, and the issue of Cyprus number plates. UAE-specification vehicles sometimes need minor adjustments — to lighting or equipment — to pass inspection, and we set out what to expect for your particular vehicle.
- Container freight, or roll-on roll-off where a sailing is available, booked from a port outside the Strait of Hormuz into Limassol
- UAE export and Cypriot customs import documentation prepared — including the transfer-of-residence claim for the vehicle where the relief applies
- Roadworthiness inspection coordinated after clearance, with guidance on any modifications a UAE-spec vehicle typically needs
- Guidance on Department of Road Transport registration, road tax and insurance, so you know what it takes to get the car on Cypriot roads
How it works
- Tell us what is moving. The pet (species, breed, size) and / or the vehicle (make, model, year, specification), plus your anticipated move dates.
- Map the requirements. We set out the EU entry sequence for the pet and the import, inspection and registration sequence for the vehicle — including the lead times and waiting periods that cannot be compressed.
- Coordinate the journeys. Pet travel via an approved DXB air route and vehicle freight by sea are booked and aligned with your household shipment so arrivals are sequenced sensibly.
- Keep you informed. Your coordinator updates you through each stage — the UAE vet steps, Cypriot customs clearance, the roadworthiness inspection, the registration — and you can ask for an update at any point.
Pets and vehicles are usually one part of a larger household move — our UAE to Cyprus relocation overview shows how they fit alongside the rest. EU pet entry requirements in particular reward early action, because the vet steps and their waiting periods fix the earliest possible travel date and there is no way to shorten them. Get in touch as soon as you have a move date and we will map out the full timeline for both.

Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to Cyprus take?
It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
